Fictional scenario:

There is a lifelong alcoholic on his deathbed suffering from liver failure.

The lifelong alcoholic begs God to save them from their suffering and heal them.

*** God heals them ***

The lifelong alcoholic repents by recognizing alcohol is harmful to themselves, their friends and family. And making better choices as a result.

Had they returned to the same alcoholic lifestyle and made the same choices which led to their health decline, it would show they did not repent of their sin.

Repentance does not mean God saving us from our bad choices, to enable us to make the same bad choices all over again.

Repentance is defined by people wanting to make better & smarter choices.

To spare God the trouble of having to save us from the bad decisions we've made.

Like a child who is foolish, immature and unwise in our youth.

Eventually, we can grow to become the opposite.

This is what it means to repent of sin.

If repentance doesn't involve putting an end to our sinful behavior, what purpose does it serve?
