OK this is when they came to get Jesus in the garden where he was praying .

Mark 14:50-52 (KJV)

50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

Who is this young man
and why was it important for it to be recorded for us to know ?

Any OT prophecy ?
Who told Mark about it because all the disciples except Judas fled.
Well I guess this young man could have told them about what happened later ????

Some have suggested that this young man was Mark. I don't know, myself.

Much love!
There is a minor tradition that it is indeed Mark, who injected this part of the story into his account.
I guess we won't know for sure until we get home.

Interesting; I don't recall anyone preaching about these verses.

In John's Gospel, John refers to himself obliquely sometimes; and so maybe this a similar device, penned by Mark.

The fact that he was naked seems also somehow to be significant; any thoughts?

I think that's the thinking on this.

Just that he was young as I understand the culture. And desparate to get away! But those are the kinds of details historians love, that show authenticity in the writing.

Much love!

Yes, it may be that Mark is obliquely talking about himself.

So how did you mean about his youth = his nakedness?

@Waiting on him FYI...any thoughts?
Just my opinion, they were all naked. Prior to the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit. We definitely see in acts at Pentecost these men received boldness( able to stand) it’s the Spirit of God that walks and doesn’t faint, the covering of Christ. None of us will be found naked on that day thanks to this great work He has accomplished.

Figuratively I see what you mean.

The passage in Mark 14 drawn to our attention by the OP seems to indicate that the young man was definitely physically naked. I wonder what - if any - the significance of this is?

I know Jesus had a robe(a covering) is there any mention of the disciples wearing robes, pre Pentecost?

I know they didn’t even possess the power to stay awake and pray.
I take your point...

It says he fled, and of course athletes in Antiquity would typically be naked, right? the men, at least. (Not sure that there even were many female athletes in Antiquity.) Maybe the idea was, he fled, unencumbered by garments.

Sad that none of the disciples stayed with the Lord Jesus.

The unregenerate have no choice. There powerless, their life is prized above all. They run out off their own shoes to keep it. I’m sure he beat his own shadow out of there.

That he was only wrapped in a cloth, rather than fully dressed. My understanding is that a youth might go about that way, while an adult would not.

Being only wrapped in a cloth, when they tried to grab him, they just got a handful of sheet, the fellow running away.

Again, only my understanding, I wouldn't make book on it.

Much love!
