Can you give us a synopsis?
Burt Lancaster plays a 12 step alcoholic, somber, serious, trying not to live in the disastrous past. Shirley Booth is wistful, hopeful, abounding in support for him, and holding on to her memories of good things. Little Sheba is her little dog that ran away, a metaphor of the promise of a good life that didn't turn out to be.
The story takes place after Little Sheba is gone, and a young college student rent a room. The interplay between her and her boyfriends reflect aspects of the events in the older couple's young lives, and how different choices can be made. This is the backdrop to the older couple's escalating crisis.
I don't want to give it all away, but the more I watch it, the deeper I find it. It was based on a stage play.
Much love!
