I'd personally suggest buying a used one on ebay or facebook marketplace or something. I'm not sure how the prices would compare but a used one would probably be more versatile and easier to work with, the diy one might be dangerous. Also you might burn out your drill with the diy one. He uses a compact circular saw in the video so you might already need one to build the diy one. It'd definitely be cool to build though.

I have pulled dryer and washing machine motors while scrapping. I also, pick up motors at garage sales. People throw them away too for some reason. Do you have "next door" site. often I will post parts I am looking for. Basically, a group of us, upgrade computers for schools and students and use scrap metal cash to buy parts. There are some local private stores that sell us such cheap.
I have also, removed sewing machie motors too.

I am keeping an eye out at Habitat too. They had one once for $200. I tested it and it did not work. They would not consider reducing the price. They have poor scraping methods.

Depending on the size of what I want to cut, I use a Stanley 15-113 high tension hacksaw. or Makita hand held band saw XBP02Z, or a Makita chop saw LC1230 with Evolution chop saw stand.

I agree, buying a used electric handsaw on eBay or Facebook Marketplace is a solid idea. It's likely more reliable and safer than a DIY version. Plus, building one requires tools you might not have, and could damage your drill. Still, building one would be a fun project!
