I heard our national electric grid is sorely outdated for the most part.
Giving billions to Ukraine but leaving America's infrastructure wanting.

Very short sighted in my opinion for government and or corporations to push EV's. Especially in trucking.

It is a myth EV's are environmentally superior to fossil fueled cars anyway. Yet, it seems we will happily buy a bill of goods if we believe we will stop global warming in doing so.

The Government doesn't own any of it. There are 138 IOU's in the US. (Investor owned utilities) Another 375 Co-Ops .....the Federal Government will never own it. The Government is paying for those EV's to be sold and taken off the lot. To pay off the investor's would be kin to paying reparations.

Not true....
Electric companies are utilities which are highly regulated monopolies. Meaning they are private companies that are not extensions of the government. You can own a piece of electric generating companies through your retirement portfolio and not realize it...in fact during recession times like these usually they are a good purchase as demand for their stock goes up.

And many of the coal burning electric generating plants have shut down due to EPA regulations. Burning coal often puts large amounts of mercury into the environment and has disastrous effects on ALL animal life...including human.
There are ways to burn coal cleanly but it is expensive and requires either scrubbers on the stacks or converting coal to diesel before burning which again causes by products there is not as much use for and is waste products that will fill landfills.

Then,
Because of some republicans (not all) are opposed to helping Ukraine and back out of our treaty with them OPEC+ has decided to keep current energy prices high so they can fund their own militaries more and buy weapons including nuclear weapons. These nations are concerned that we will back out of our treaties with them and be of no help against China, Iran, or even Russia.

So the Republicans pointing fingers at Democrats about high oil prices is extremely disingenuous and hypocritical.

Electric cars are a thing of the past. What we need is cars that run on organic garbage:

What is being discussed is basically transmitting surplus power to areas that need some.
Where it's not a wholly bad idea it does nothing to remedy the real problem of being thousands of gigawatts short in generation capabilities. Renewable resources are not going to provide the shortfall. Especially when thousands of acres are necessary to provide 2 gigawatts.

Let's say Michigan has a need for power because of a short fall in production. Florida takes a bid to provide the needed power .......Not one electron from Florida will ever reach Michigan. The power is wheeled to Southern Companies .....Southern Companies absorbs the power .....they in turn wheel power north. That power is absorbed by the next in line. Then wheeled until the nearest Utility to Michigan can send the needed power.

EVs are still a "stop-gap " measure with the batteries currently.

Still not working on the lion's share of petroleum products used which is commercial and industrial usage which utilizes 75% of petroleum products. Passenger vehicles only use 25% of the petroleum produced.

So....another form of energy needs to be utilized for commercial use that is economical, requires little planning, portable, and is extremely versatile.

Also needing to be resolved is what to do with the used up powerplants once they are used up/broken beyond repair. Nuclear is out as the dental exray machines of old are polluting 2nd world nations now...we need a cleaner technology than those.

I get the ambition for cleaner cheap energy production...but we aren't there yet. Dunno if we will be in my lifetime.

Right....
But Texas is a great example of why this won't work.
Texas has excess power generating capabilities....always has. But currently the power generating plants there are selling so much power to CA (at a huge profit) that currently Texas has rolling blackouts during the summer and winter when they need it at home.

How would you like to lose the stable grid you have now just because some other state can't get their act together and the Federal Government takes your stability because they think others are more deserving.

Bull ....The problem in Texas is due to the stupidity of thinking they could replace fossil fuel generation with Wind and Solar. When the contracts were awarded, the contractors did not wrap the pipes for cold weather .....didn't matter, the freeze was so great the wind turbines froze. Because the idiots did not put thermal fibers in the propellers, nor heat the turbines .... The only ones caught in an oversell of power in the past 20 years was Florida, selling to Southern Companies. When the cold front moved over Florida, Florida had oversold their generation capabilities. Rolling blackouts for three days.....

Just in case....
I am an industrial electrician who works with the HV guys.....meaning I actually know.

Texas has had excess capacity for years since Bill Clinton was in office. Bush put in the transmission lines to CA after he got elected President as one of the first things he did in office. Carbon credits and cash has made it possible for years. I'm unaware of Texas shutting plants down as they use the gas off the oil fields to make the juice...meaning they are cheaper and Cleaner than most.

I worked in the Utility Industry for 20 years .......which means I know .....I participated in the design, manufacture and sales of the most desired protection relays on the planet. Also in the design and manufacture of the best Load Tapcharger Controls on the Market. Then graduated to VP of Sales of the transformers for wind and solar farms .....Seems like we played in the same sandbox .....I had all the US and Canada .....plus Alaska ...

Instead of building new power plants to support the Texas growth .......they were sold on the idea of bird choppers and mirrors .....

What I'm saying is that if Texas stopped selling juice to CA....they would have had enough power.
When was the last time CA built a power generating plant? (50 years ago)

They have been an accident waiting to happen for a LONG time. CA failures are draining the rest of the nation.

I'd heard about the bird cooker (Nevada solar farm) and the bird choppers....finally got my eyes on the bird chopper farm in KY or Missouri. (On my way to St Louis and Chicago from Nashville)
Bird choppers are an absolute waste. The cost of cable and transformers alone have to be off the charts for capital. Nevermind the towers and turbines themselves. Then I heard how little juice they really produce. (Looked it up)
I just about puked right then and there. That wind farm is going to cost another fortune to dismantle one day. Talk about brown sites....sure they farm around it all...but it's a mess for sure.

The sad part .....they never clean up the mess. Tehachapi, California has the first wind farm that sits like a dinosaur today. I had a great photo from the Leaning Juniper Wind Farm in Oregon .......Wind turbines in the background and an old water wind mill in foreground
I played football in Tehachapi .....Freshman year of High School ....

We had a special transformer made to wench 200 feet in the air and into the belly of a turbine. I had grown to handle heights .....(overhead crane crew during college for my GrandFather's Company) The senior engineer and I went to the site to see this thing hoisted into the belly of the beast. Told Stephen "Don't look down, watch the horizon and enjoy the ride. Don't freak out on me ....." He looked down .....Thankfully we were both harnessed in and he couldn't go anywhere. Once we got inside he enjoyed the view. I walked out and across the top of the turbine ......Great view up there ....

The utilities were selling power, not realizing the coming chaos of the winter storm. I'll bet they are a little more careful in the future ....

Nuclear power is the way to go in fact, we have 150 years of spent fuel that can power the whole world for 150 years with Gen 3 Power Stations. and the end result is spent fuel that is left is not so toxic and fine after 150 so years after it's been spent, not for 2000 years how it's contained now.

The People are being lied to about Nuclear power nowadays by Governments in the West, they hide the reality of the facts from us all in fact. As if we were living back in the 1970's regarding Nuclear power advancements.
The USA should not have one Nuclear power Plant that is of the old 1960's dangerous backward crap that is used even now that's all that the USA has, it's backwards Rubbish !
China and Japan and France does have some of the Gen 3 Nuclear Power Stations in use.
The latest problem in Japan that got destroyed, if that was a Gen 3 or Gen 4 Nuclear Power Station such would not of been a problem at all, for they are that safe !

Those old boiling water reactors were made to produce weapons grade material for nukes as much as electric power.
Spent fuel still has 90% of the original energy and it gets put in casks and buried. Total waste. Maybe cheaper to mine it fresh.
New rector designs could burn that fuel that is basically thrown away.

The Office of Nuclear Energy states that after the fuel has been used in a nuclear reactor still retains about 90 percent of its potential energy "even after five years."

All electric car and truck fleet numbers in their centrally planned dictated economy (10 yr plan, Marxist too), can't and won't ever work. The USA as it is, is destroyed. Neither did the central planning dictated economies of major communist countries function either.
