@devin553344 It's virtually part of being in the military to get a tattoo, in the opinion of many.

    The fact that they are not visible in uniform doesn't mean they don't have them.

    I think I also read that the proportion of women in the military with tattoos is even higher than the proportion of men in the military with tattoos.

    Any city of neighborhood with a military camp is likely to have a tattoo parlor not far away.

    There are many tattoo parlors near to military bases yes. There are also bars with women that prey off the young military personnel in some areas. There was some of these bars in North Carolina when I was there. Anywhere there is military there is money to be made by people. They knew this in my area and brought in a military base to enhance the city I live in.

    @devin553344 It's also not unusually an especially strong expectation among military wives.

    Often themes of faith, family and patriotism drive the motivation of military wives' tattoos. So like you say there are many tattoo parlors near to military bases. It seems to be part of how the military scene is.
I think there are some instances, such as the girl who was forcefully marked, carved, and tattooed ..who after her conversion, wanted those marks covered over with something that represented her new life. Had she never been marked/carved/tattooed by her handlers, she may not have chosen to be tattooed. See what I'm saying?
@TLHKAJ

    I think it should always be a voluntary thing.

    Usually it is indeed a voluntary thing.

    In cases such as the one you cite, it was an involuntary thing and thus the whole context of getting further tattooing as voluntary thing instead has a whole different context compared with other tattooing.

    As far as the tattoo artist is concerned also, it's part of being professional to be assured that the tattooing is being received voluntarily. A tattoo artist who gives involuntary tattoos would be regarded as highly unprofessional and abusive.
@My Dreams Okay, yes; I thought I remembered correctly what you had said.

    In the West a lot of Christian young ppl do it with lettering of Bible verses.

    All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have received them as witness tools.

    It's very widespread. Tattoo parlors in the West are very busy and many young Christians want to use them.

    @GodsGrace Are you really? :) because by the evidence it seems it's actually been established for a very long time as a highly womanly thing to aspire to doing.

    PS: This is a quote from Ryan Ashley, distinguished tattoo artist:

    "I'm very light-handed; I'm a lady tattooer and I tattoo like a lady".

    @dhh712 Okay; thanks!

    I guess some ppl would simply say - like @Abigail - that a faith-based can simply be about a silent witness rather than necessarily about talking with ppl; she says about hers:

    Thanks, anyhow.... :)
