Years ago, I saw a profound video of John Piper and these are the notes I took from it (unfortunately my battle with porn addiction still went on for a while until, with Jesus, I finally defeated it, but I found these thoughts very comforting nevertheless):

In Jesus we ARE made free from the law of sin. We are not meant to fall back into the justification through trying to fulfilling the law. In our own strength we will NEVER make it!

Romans 8, verses 1 (Justification) and 2 (Sanctification).

"In Jesus" there is no condemnation for us.

"In Jesus" we are made free.

Jesus paid my ENTIRE debt, God HAS already condemned my sin in Jesus, therefore I AM eternally FREE (verse 2), JESUS CHRIST DIED (!!!) for ME. There is NO more condemnation.

Romans 7:6: We are free from the law!!!

The sword of Damocles IS taken away.

Let that sink in.

The doors of heaven ARE open for you.

In this newness and freedom, we want to serve in freedom, out of love and in liberty.

We fight NOT THAT we might be redeemed!!! But we fight BECAUSE we ARE ALREADY free!!! Super important difference!

JESUS deserves ALL the glory for our salvation and we have 0.0 part in it.

Prayer: let me not be a Pharisee fighting (subtly) for my acceptance before God in my own strength.

Therefore:

Fight your sin like a victor and not a victim!

More temptations will come!

But we are warriors who have WINNER status, and we therefore go into battle full of joy and strength and hope!

Yeshua told us that in this life we will have many troubles, but we can be of good cheer for HE has overcome the world (John 16:33).

I would like to add:

Of course, the Apostle Paul makes clear that this is NOT a license to sin. But as long as we fight sin with all we’ve got and are seriously at war with sin, this fully applies to us.

Do you have thoughts on that?

Great post! Welcome to the forum. :)

Romans 7:6
[6]But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Jesus does give us the victory! I am glad with you!

Porn is still a temptation but fortunately, it has been only that and not a habit. God is good!

This very truth is what liberated and liberates me from porn addiction and so much more evil. But I walk in complete freedom from all those things while I trust in the fulness of God reconciling me to Himself in Jesus Christ.

My being born of God, and my acceptance by God, is found in what Jesus did - NOT me! And Jesus never changes! So my reconciliation never changes. And while it really makes some people seem to completely lose their peace when I say it, sin in my life now has ZERO effect over my acceptance by God, and that He remains with me in a Father/son love relationship.

Knowing this truth is what cancels the power of sin, because the power of sin is the Law, and in Christ we are dead to the Law. We are dead to the law, and alive unto God. So walk in that reality, in righteousness.

Much love!

I remember sometimes, how addicted I was. And sometimes that temptation flits across my mind. Just one more thought to take captive, I pray we both, all of us, remain clear of that fleshy work!

Much love!
