For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. Psalm 119:89.
The Word of God covers a period of history reaching from the Creation to the coming of the Son of man in the clouds of heaven. Yea, more, it carries the mind forward to the future life, and opens before it the glories of Paradise restored. Through all these centuries the truth of God has remained the same. That which was truth in the beginning is truth now. Although new and important truths appropriate for succeeding generations have been opened to the understanding, the present revealings do not contradict those of the past. Every new truth understood only makes more significant the old.14
Commencing with the Fall, down through the patriarchal and Jewish ages even to the present time, there has been a gradual unfolding of the purposes of God in the plan of redemption. Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses understood the gospel through Christ; they looked for the salvation of the race through man’s substitute and surety. These holy men of old held communion with the Saviour who was to come to our world in human flesh, and some of them talked with Christ and heavenly angels face to face, as a man talks with his friend.15
As time has rolled on from Creation and the cross of Calvary, as prophecy has been and is still fulfilling, light and knowledge have greatly increased.... In the life and death of Christ, a light flashes back upon the past, giving significance to the whole Jewish economy, and making of the old and the new dispensations a complete whole. Nothing that God has ordained in the plan of redemption can be dispensed with. It is the working out of the divine will in the salvation of man.16
All the truths of revelation are of value to us, and in contemplating things of eternal interest, we shall gain true perceptions of the character of God.... The entire character will be elevated and transformed. The soul will be brought into harmony with Heaven

No more than in the quote itself. Thank you for the reminder of this thread. I shall add further quotes as I come across them.
Actually, in thinking about this more, perhaps there is an ulterior motive I could confess to, and that would be to lay aside any suggestions that Adventists rate Ellen White as the final authority in faith and practice for our Christian walk. She herself would be horrified of adventists today or at any time works use her and/or her husband as a source or example for Bible truth, or final authoritative source for counsel on how to live in righteousness. Here's some quotes to that effect...

In the vision given me June 12, 1868, I was shown the danger of the people of God in looking to Brother and Sister White and thinking that they must come to them with their burdens and seek counsel of them. This ought not so to be.
They are invited by their compassionate, loving Saviour to come unto Him, when weary and heavy-laden, and He will relieve them. In Him they will find rest. In taking their perplexities and trials to Jesus, they will find the promise in regard to them fulfilled. When in their distress they feel the relief which is found alone in Jesus they obtain an experience which is of the highest value to them.
Brother and Sister White are striving for purity of life, striving to bring forth fruit unto holiness; yet they are only erring mortals.
Many come to us with the inquiry: Shall I do this? Shall I engage in that enterprise? Or, in regard to dress, Shall I wear this or that article?
I answer them: You profess to be disciples of Christ. Study your Bibles. Read carefully and prayerfully the life of our dear Saviour when He dwelt among men upon the earth. Imitate His life, and you will not be found straying from the narrow path.
We UTTERLY REFUSE to be conscience for you.
If we tell you just what to do, YOU WILL LOOK TO US to guide you, instead of going directly to Jesus for yourselves. Your experience will be founded IN US. You must have an experience for yourselves, which shall be founded in God. Then can you stand amid the perils of the last days and be purified and not consumed by the fire of affliction through which all the saints must pass in order to have the impurities removed from their character preparatory to receiving the finishing touch of immortality. 2T 118.3

I think the advice above speaks to all church members, all Christians of whatever denomination, particularly Catholics, that their pastors and priests and church leaders should never replace the real and personal role that Christ himself should have in our lives. Ellen White always saw herself and her ministry as one that led people to Christ and His word as the ultimate and final authority in all things Christian. This was especially needful at the time she ministered, as the churches in her day were in a dark place and the Lord was seeking to bring people back to Himself.

YOu do know that she was a member of the SDA cult.
Of course. And the quotes above clearly reveal the cultist nature of adventism huh.. oh wait. Isn't the principle characteristic of cults the demand that members view the leader as being above all other influences and teaching? And that demands comes from the leader himself/herself? Seems a very strange cult practice that the leader and prophet direct everyone to Jesus and His word.

That is only one of many possible marks of a cult. but Ellen White did consider herself a prophetess from God and the SDA recognized her as such. If they still do, I don't know.

Ellen White does not believe in a literal hell, or a literal lake of fire.

Her Theology replaced Hell with "soul sleep", and it replaced Revelation 20:11 and the Lake of fire with "soul annialtion".

Every founder of a cult or leader has to get their "special revelations" to reinterpret teh word of God to grab their followers from the ranks of the disillusioned.

People, who are not saved, the unbelievers, tend to think that :

1.) God is angry with them

2.) If i become a Christian, i can't have any more fun.

What they dont understand is that God is not angry with them, He is just very SERIOUS about that Cross, and if they dont go there and receive His mercy, then they get none after they die, as there is none avaiblable..... as there is no CROSS in ETERNITY. You have to go to it while you are on the EARTH.
Jesus died on EARTH, and we have to go to that Cross and get that MERCY< on EARTH, while we are still breathing.
And THat is NOT the same as God being angry with them.

Also, what people think of as "fun"...... sex addiction, drinking, taking drugs, compulsive spending, chasing pleasure, ... is not what they think it is.
They are BLINDED to the fact regarding the reality that they are SLAVES to their carnal desires that compel them to repetition until the sinning just destroys everything in their life.
What the born again discover, is that JESUS IS FREEDOM from being lost in all that uncontrollable desire, that is always burning and always driving you to comitt your slavery.
"being NOW made free from sin", ..... is such a Gift of God that is found in Christ's Atonement.

What makes a cult a cult? Two thousand years ago the Romans saw Christianity as a cult.

The Context of the Cross, is what defines a religious cult.

See, when you are trying to understand why, "that one says that, and this christian says that, and others say that".....and you are just CONFUSED...

A.) You have ENTERED the place of finding the answer.

See, until you REALIZE that 40 people all disagreeing, can't all be right....
Until you SEE that OPINION is not Truth, then you are in the DARK, listening to the darkness howl at you.

And the LIGHT, ....Glory to God, is found in the Dark.
Jesus was sent into this DARK WORLD, as a LIGHT SHINING OUT OF THE DARKNESS.
He will shine INTO YOUR HEART as REVELATiON and TRUTH.

So, when you , READER, come to that place of being TIRED of hearing 50 opinions about how to go to heaven, per THREAD.....regarding how to be accepted by God, and want the TRUTH, then you have finally come to the place of gaining the Knowledge OF IT.

Where is it found?
Only one place.
It's only found by understanding what Jesus meant when He said to the universe from The Cross....>"IT IS FINISHED".

See that? ???
Something is FINISHED, and if you are still trying to do it, and you are listening to the deceivers who are teaching you how YOU are to do it.... then you have not YET come to the Cross where "IT IS FINISHED" already....for you....as "THE GIFT of Salvation".

Ellen White did consider herself a prophetess from God
No, she didn't. A messenger yes, a prophet, no. She refused any title that would tend to remove Jesus from anyone's focus.
Her Theology
Her theology? Are you suggesting she made it up herself, and was the first to teach soul sleep? Ever heard of Martin Luther?
" We should learn to view our death in the right light, so that we need not become alarmed on account of it, as unbelief does; because in Christ it is indeed not death, but a fine, sweet and brief sleep, which brings us release from this vale of tears, from sin and from the fear and extremity of real death and from all the misfortunes of this life, and we shall be secure and without care, rest sweetly and gently for a brief moment, as on a sofa, until the time when He shall awaken us together with all His dear children to His eternal glory and joy...For since we call it a sleep, we know that we shall not remain in it, but be again awakened and live, and that the time during which we sleep, shall seem no longer than if we had just fallen asleep... Hence we shall censure ourselves that we were surprised or alarmed at such a sleep in the hour of death, and suddenly come alive out of the grave and from decomposition, and entirely well, fresh, with a pure, clear, glorified life, meet our Lord and savior Jesus Christ in the clouds...Scripture everywhere affords such consolation, which speaks of the death of the saints, as if they fell asleep and were gathered to their fathers, that is had overcome death through this faith and comfort in Christ, and awaited the resurrection, together with the saints who preceded them in death." Martin Luther

Bible...

His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish (Psalm 146:4).

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun (Ecclesiastes 9:5-6).

For in death there is no remembrance of You (Psalm 6:5 NKJV).

The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence (Psalm 115:17).

So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep (Job 14:12).

So no, Ellen White didn't invent 'soul sleep', for want of a better expression, nor was she the first to teach it.

Google is your friend here and will show yo from her own pen as well as the pen of other SDA's.

As for your defense of false SDA doctrine; I don't care which historical figure believed what . What matters is what teh bible teaches

As for the Seventh Day Adventist church being a "cult", or Ellen White a "cult" leader, I'll let her own words speak for themselves. @Behold said the theology of the cross was a tipping point, so here's some statements from EGW concerning the cross.

Google is your friend here
Google is no friend, just a finite resource that will track down what you want to find.
In other words, if you want to find slander and prejudicial misquotes, yep, Google is your go to. I don't suppose you've read any of her books huh.
For those who think adventists are working their way to heaven...
It is impossible for us, of ourselves, to escape from the pit of sin in which we are sunken. Our hearts are evil, and we cannot change them. "Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one." "The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." Job 14:4; Romans 8:7. Education, culture, the exercise of the will, human effort, all have their proper sphere, but here they are powerless. They may produce an outward correctness of behavior, but they cannot change the heart; they cannot purify the springs of life. There must be a power working from within, a new life from above, before men can be changed from sin to holiness. That power is Christ. His grace alone can quicken the lifeless faculties of the soul, and attract it to God, to holiness. SC 18.1

For those who think Adventist believe obedience saves them...
The Saviour said, "Except a man be born from above," unless he shall receive a new heart, new desires, purposes, and motives, leading to a new life, "he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3, margin. The idea that it is necessary only to develop the good that exists in man by nature, is a fatal deception. "The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." 1 Corinthians 2:14; John 3:7. Of Christ it is written, "In Him was life; and the life was the light of men"—the only "name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." John 1:4; Acts 4:12.
It is not enough to perceive the loving-kindness of God, to see the benevolence, the fatherly tenderness, of His character. It is not enough to discern the wisdom and justice of His law, to see that it is founded upon the eternal principle of love. Paul the apostle saw all this when he exclaimed, "I consent unto the law that it is good." "The law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good." But he added, in the bitterness of his soul-anguish and despair, "I am carnal, sold under sin." Romans 7:16, 12, 14. He longed for the purity, the righteousness, to which in himself he was powerless to attain, and cried out, "O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from this body of death?" Romans 7:24, margin. Such is the cry that has gone up from burdened hearts in all lands and in all ages. To all, there is but one answer, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." John 1:29. SC 18.2 - SC 19.1

.

Im not suggesting anything. I just stated that she teaches "soul sleep", and does not believe that Christ rejectors end up in Hell or the Lake of Fire.

Also, if you want to find out where "soul sleep" originated you need to research Origen of Alexandria.
He created this theolgy long before Martin Luther or Ellen White spoke about it.
Its possible that it was originated by Pagans, but Origen brought it into the realm of Christianity.

Still a cult. May be a Christian cult- but still a cult. Just like romanism and others.
