So, do you think the brou-ha-ha yesterday was just a couple random glitches or something more?

Software glitch. The NASDAQ is the first to go electronic with the NYSE still opting to have traders on the floor. It looks like the NYSE is upgrading to the point where I do not believe they will need traders on the floor. Every year the NYSE looks more and more computerized!
