Jer 9:23 Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
Jer 9:24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

We should differentiate between knowledge for knowledge sake (which puffs up and excites the religious flesh) and the intimate knowledge of the Lord which can only come through being a son and abiding in Him.

This verse that you listed:

Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
...is not speaking of book knowledge, but knowledge of Him, which comes by "doing His will" and experiencing His ways and the power of His word in our lives (in real life).

Great verses, thanks.

Hi Axehead,

Great verses,

I agree that there's book knowledge, and then there's revelation knowledge. However, I believe that they both are tied to the bible and before we can move on to deeper things we have to believe the word for what it says and as it says it. The Pharisees has a lot of book knowledge and Jesus corrected them in many areas.

There's searching for something and not applying it as well. We can study and search the scriptures and get understanding, and yet not apply it to our lives or continue to mature.

One thing I've found in my own studies is that just when I think I know something, the Lord shows me that there's more and more. I'm not sure that there's any finality this side of heaven.

Proverbs 12:27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Yes it comes by doing His will and not being hearers only.

God is the same yesterday, today and forever, He changes not. I trust that what His will was and is, (as it is written in the in the scriptures,) is still the same today.
