I absolutely love the analogy where each day of our lives is a page in a book. As a reader/writer, this grabs my attention and gets me interested. As a writer, I love the feel and look of a blank piece of paper. I know it’s weird but a blank piece paper means endless possibilities. The blank piece of paper inspires me. Weird, but its how I am. I think many writers feel this way; it’s just something that comes with the territory.Back to the analogy. Imagine our lives being written in a book. What would it say? Would the book end in tragedy? Would it be a love story? Would it be a heart-felt, happy ending? How would it end?These are questions that you may ask yourself… but… Presently, who is writing the book? Are you? Is God? Are your peers? Who is the author of your life?In this culture, especially America, we are drawn the triangle of lies. Sex-Money-Self. Our culture is telling us that sex will make us happy. Money is the key to happiness. And worshipping/honoring your self is the number #1 priority. “Team of Me.” In this kind of world, we are undeniably drawn to think this way.If we do so, we force the pen out of God’s hands and take the pen into our own. We hold firm to the pen and scratch the words of the lives we want onto the blank pieces of paper. We carve our own path, with our own detours and our own pit stops. We add our own wants and desires and finish with what we think is a masterpiece. We stand back, and tie a ribbon around our own novel and talk about how proud we are of our own accomplishment. We tell ourselves, “I wrote that book.” “I am awesome.” “I have won!”But have we? I would say that we haven’t. Jesus Christ talks about having an abundant life in John 10:10: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Does this “life to the full” equate sex, money and self. No!Actually, Christ means nothing of the sort! Christ teaches us that a “life to the full” is a life empty of self and full of love. The exact opposite! By living for others and showing them love, we receive life abundantly. Not by the world’s standards, but by God’s standards.Are you ready to say, “Ok, God knows best?” If so, let go of the pen and let the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end, pick up the pen and write the pages of your life. Let go of our self and allow God to replace me with Him. Allow God to dictate your path and guide, He knows better than you do.Are you ready to let God write the book? Are you ready to let God fill in the blank pages of your life?
