Ephesians rightly speaks of saved by grace...

Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

It is important to know to whom it was written...

Ephesians 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

How did the saints to whom the epistles are written get saved...

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
[38] Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Therefore, is Acts 2:38 grace or works of the law?

Acts 2:38 is Grace.

I dare anyone to say repentance is Law, water baptism is Law and recieving the Holy Ghost is Law.

Thank God for Acts 2:38!!!

"What we have here is a failure to communicate," remember that from Cool Hand Luke?

The failure here is that, "Then Peter said unto them, REPENT...."

Let's stop right there! What happens when one repents? That's a question to you, user.

What did Peter say had to happen first and why? What happens when we repent according to the Scripture?

As a first step toward God, repentance alone does not bring the full power of salvation, although it does bring positive emotional feelings and a limited, temporary strength to break away from sin. Both water baptism and Holy Spirit are necessary to complete the work that repentance begins, together complete the full work of forgiveness.

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Paul is the "apostle to the gentiles", so, all of His epistles are offered as doctrine for the Church.

Look at your verse......It says....>"AND to the Faithful in Christ Jesus".......that is all the believers.

Can anyone receive the Holy Spirit as the disciples did at Pentecost and speak in tongues if they are in an unsaved state?
Cornelius and his household received before they were baptised in water. Best not to put God in a box so to speak

NO! Repentance is salvation. Repentance is a change of mind that accepts Christ. Paul told us when we are saved.

Eph. 1:13
"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,"

Salvation comes from within, user. It's a change of mind and heart when one hears the Gospel and believe it.

The word "believing" is a mode of thinking, not of feeling. When the Gospel is heard, man has no choice but to make a decision, he will accept that truth in repentance, or reject it, and it happens immediately.

Rom. 10:8-10
"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

It all takes place in the mind and heart of man, and instantly when the Gospel is heard and accepted.

And then comes water baptism as the outward confession of what took place in the heart when you believed.

The sins were forgiven at the repentance, which was your salvation!

You quoted Eph and Rom. As per the OP: "How did the saints to whom the epistles are written get saved"....

John says in chapter 3
[5] Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Mark says in chapter 16
[16] He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Matt. 12:34
"O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

This principle here by Christ is the premise on which Paul explains our salvation.

"The abundance of the heart" given here by Christ is what the mouth will speak!

It is hearing the Gospel, believing the Gospel, and confessing the Gospel.

Jesus told Nicodemus that he must born again. Nicodemus asked can a man enter his mothers womb the second time and be born?

Jesus said, that which is born of the flesh is flesh, that which is born of the spirit is spirit.

Then He said, you must be born again!

Jesus is explaining to Nicodemus that being born of water, the natural process of being born in the flesh, must be followed by the rebirth, the spiritual birth. It has nothing to do with water baptism.

John 3:5 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Jesus was pointing towards a new age in which the kingdom of God would soon be revealed, and every person who wished to enter that kingdom would have to be born again, that is, born of water and the Spirit.

In Acts 1 Jesus gave His disciples last minute instructions just before His ascension into heaven. He told them to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father, which took place in chapter 2.

After this took place and was noised abroad, we then come to verse 37...

Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

[38]Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
[39] For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

The Lord has not stopped calling.

Amen! Faith in Jesus Christ "implied in genuine repentance" (rather than water baptism) brings the remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Luke 24:47; Acts 3:19; 5:31; 10:43-47; 11:17,18; 15:7-9; 16:31; 26:18) *Perfect Harmony*

Peter didnt know that Gentiles could be saved, until about 10 Yrs after Christ was back in Heaven. Acts 10.
He had to be taught "Paul's Gospel", in Acts 15.

Catholic Theology tries to tie everything into WATER WATER WATER as their phony bible teaches that you are "born again by WATER".
That's interesting, as the NT, Paul, and the apostles, and the Holy Spirit teach that you are born again by the HOLY SPIRIT.
The Catholic Cult, and the Jehovah's Witness cult are the prime offenders regarding teaching that WATER is required for the new Birth.
This GARBAGE theology is known as "baptismal regeneration".

Acts 3:19 - Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. *What happened to baptism? ;)

When Peter said this in Acts 10:43, what happened to water baptism?

"To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins."
