Many believers get confused between teh two and mistake them and put them in a false way. They are very different with each other. One has to do with our position in Christ and one has to do with our day to walk with god.
Let me explain.
Romans 5
King James Version
5 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
This is the verse that explains that we, the moment we placed our trust in the death and resurrection of Jesus , have ceased being gods' enemy.
Rom. 5: 10 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
In a very real sense God is at war with all unbelievers! His wrath abides on the unbeliever (John 3:36). When we trusted Christ (biblical faith is trust not just a belief) The war was over and an eternal peace treaty was made.
This is having peace with God.
Now about having the peace of God. This is only available for those who have made peace with god. this one is not a cessation of hostilities but that deep all abiding peace that comes when we walk with God. This is conditional and is dependent on our obedient walk with God.
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
2 Corinthians 13:11
Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
Galatians 6:16
And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
I hope this helps some.
Peace with god is a once for all never to be lost event that makes us forever justified before God through Jesus.
Having the peace of God means living with a zero balance inour sin account! that we are confessed to date and striving to walk in the light the Lord has given you.
One ia what some call a positional truth and the other an experiential truth.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
I - Philippians 4:9
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be.
