Heb 4:12, For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Gen 2:7, And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

When God breathed into Adam's body the ruach (breath, spirit) of life, he became a living soul.

The combining of spirit and body made for a living soul being in Adam.

When the spirit is separated from the soul, it is because the soul is connected to the body and not to the born again spirit. If you are living by the flesh, then your soul is connected to your body and your born again spirit has no choice but to be separated from it.

If your spirit is connected to your body, then you are a living soul.

So then, in order to be whole, your spirit must be connected to the body and the living soul is the result.

But if your spirit is born again, it cannot be connected to a flesh that is sinful.

And scripture teaches us that the flesh is sinful (Romans 7:18, 1 John 1:8).

The only option is for your sinful flesh to be crucified therefore; so that it is dead to sin (Galatians 5:24, Romans 6:6-7).

Then your born again spirit can again be connected to your body; and you have a soul, in that your spirit is connected to your body.

If your spirit is divided from your soul, then you have lost your connection to your soul because we are a living soul when our spirit is connected to our body.

Because we are a spirit, we have a soul, and we live in a body; but we are a soul in that our spirit is connected to our body.

Jesus said,

Mat 16:26, For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Genesis 2:7 doesn't say this that you stated above. Genesis doesn't say God gave man a soul or that a living soul was in man when he blew the breath of life in man. Genesis 2:7 is saying that the combination of God creating a flesh and blood body from the ground and blowing the breath of life into that flesh and blood body man became a living soul. So it's that flesh and blood oxygen breathing creature that is a soul. Not something inside his/her body that is a soul.

Now, in the last two posts, the false teaching begins.

As @BARNEY BRIGHT is a Jehovah's Witness and @Base12 always has his outrageous doctrines that he tries to purport by bringing in what is falsely called science (1 Timothy 6:20).

The soul is the combination of the spirit and the body; the spirit being the aspect of man's personality that motivates him to do whatever it is that he will do.

Also, man is a spirit, he has a soul, and he dwells in a body (see 1 Thessalonians 5:23).

The limbic lobe, an arc-shaped part of the frontal, temporal and parietal lobes that sits in the middle of the brain is the seat of emotion. It is recognised as making an important contribution to personality.
The spirit being the aspect of man's personality that motivates him to do whatever it is that he will do, that isn't true. The spirit in man is the same spirit that's in animals. God created the human brain marvelously. The human brain is a human miracle created by the True God, that's where our personality is from. The human is far more marvelously made that people will ever believe because they don't have the faith God can create the human brain like that.

The spirit is the motivating factor in every human being, just as it was in the living creatures that are spoken of in the book of Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1:12, 20).

So a soul and spirit are different...
Your soul is like who you are? Your personality?
Your spirit is like what connects you to God?

Soul and spirit are normally intertwined.

However, the word of God is able to separate the two (Hebrews 4:12).

The spirit is the motivating factor in every human being, just as it was in the living creatures that are spoken of in the book of Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1:12, 20).

This is a vision in Ezekiel concerning these creatures in the first chapter of Ezekiel. Ezekiel describes “what looked like four living creatures” with angelic, human, and animal features. Notice how precisely Ezekiel recorded his impression, stating that he saw “what looked like” living creatures. As you read the entire vision found in Ezekiel chapter 1, you will note that the prophet repeatedly used such expressions as “looked like,” “was like,” “resembled.” (Ezek. 1:13, 24, 26) Clearly, Ezekiel realized that he saw mere likenesses, or images, of invisible realities that exist in heaven.

The point is that the spirit of these living creatures is what directed their movements.

Therefore your commentary is irrelevant.
