The Gosples of Jesus Christ is a little different than the Epistles in that it is all about Jesus and what he has to say. So, it is not in the from of a letter, it is knowing who he is and to whom he is speaking. All of it is for us to know but most is specific to those he is speaking. How do we know the difference?
1. To whom is Jeuss speaking?
Mat 5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
Mat 5:2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
All of Chapter 5 is specificy for everybody.
Mat 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
Mat 8:10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Mat 8:11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Mat 8:13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
The centurion is specificly to whom Jesus is speaking, but it is for us to know that believeing in the power of Jesus is important.
He also said that “the children of the kingdom shall be cast out” so we must also realize that at the time Jesus spoke there was no church, so the children of the kingdom were the Jews, his chosen people.
Mat 9:2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
Mat 9:3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.
Mat 9:4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
Mat 9:5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?
Mat 9:6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.
We see here that scribes were Jewish writers, primarily of the bible (old testament). Although Jesus was speaking to them specificly, we learn knowledge of him also. What he pointed out to them by saying he “had power to forgive sins” is that he was God, for only God can forgive sin.
One can go all through the Gospels and determine the same way as pointed out above. One will also find very few scriptures were directed to the Gentiles, most is directed to the Jews. Why is that? Because Jesus was their Messiah.
