First of all it is WHO is the Holy Spirt? The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity and not an thing.

Sorry about being perdantic there are those who have nutered the Holy Spirit and call Him an it in some versions of the Bible these days. <_<

Basically we are the Temple of the Living God or Holy Spirit once we have become Saved Believers. You don't have to do anything to get the Holy Spirit, He is given as a guarantee of the salvation you have received.

1CO 3:16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?

EPH 1:3 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.

2TI 1:13 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

TIT 3:3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

After all you cannot be re-born spiritually without the Holy Spirit. You were dead in your sins but through Christ you were born again through the Holy Spirit.

RO 6:11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

1PE 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

Thank you for this break down. I agree with you on all these points. In my church they do not stress the importance of the Holy Spirit in to the youth. I had to go and do my personal study to learn and found out about the Holy Spirit.

How does the Holy Spirit work within the universe? How do you receive the Holy Spirit?
I could not say how the Holy Spirit works within the Universe.

I receive the Holy Spirit whenever He so choses to reveal Himself to me.
I do practice singing and being lighhearted so like a dove He might visit me...
preparing a place in my heart - for when He pleases He may find a welcome, still heart within me for Him.

Further, I 'receive Him', so to speak, as a change (electrification, tingling) in the atmosphere all around me and then in me - sometimes
as a breeze accompaning the barometric pressure change. I also 'receive' clear complete sentences from Him - that then transform me -
that is, when I'm able to breath again and the earth resumes revolving.

Thank you for this break down. I agree with you on all these points. In my church they do not stress the importance of the Holy Spirit in to the youth. I had to go and do my personal study to learn and found out about the Holy Spirit.

It is hard from the pulpit to do indepth studies. I have noticed that the messages from the pulpit have to be short because of the time they need to be given. Sunday morning many people are rather tired and sleepy and not ready for a lecture.

My Church offers extra study for those who want to learn more. They do various topics of study when they get enough people interested to do them together. Which is one way I got to learn so much about the Bible. You have to understand the Minister is trying to reach a group and that often means keeping it simple. So if you want in depth you have to often find another way.

If the Church didn't offer study on something I was interested in I have done the study myself. So good on you doing the same.

I have a few tips. Get yourself a good concordance. What is that you ask? A reference book that enables you to do Word seraches in your Bible. You have to get yourself the right Concordance for the version of Bible you have. A good study Bible will have a small one at the back and it will have cross-reference verses in a column next to the scripture. This is also helpful for study and research.

You can get free electronic Concordances and other reference tools on the Internet. I bought some electronic versions for myself. What I use most is my electronic Bible. I don't have to log into the Internet it is on my own PC. I have serveral versions of the Bible and some commentary and other tools with my electronic bible. Very handy for my own study. Quicker than using the free software on the Internet. I haven't got my own Lexicon or other translators but I go to the Internet for that stuff and have my favourites Bookmarked.

It is really satisfying when you have done all that study and found it yourself. Not to mention you remember it better when you go through the exercise of researching and studying a topic. If you can do it in a group you get the benefit of the observations and knowledge of others. If you don't have a group to study with you can always bounce your ideas of people at the forum or ask questions here like you did. Do go and do your own check of what people share with you. Be a good Berean make sure our anwers to you agree with the scriptures.

Just in case you are not familiar with the scriptures about the Bereans here it is for you.

AC 17:10 As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. 12 Many of the Jews believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.
