Dunkin Donuts Extra Large Extra sweet please.
Oh those were the days. Sometimes 2 or 3 Extra Large and Extra sweet a day.
On the way to work, at lunch, and on the drive home.
Daily diet for about 30 years.
How I love my coffee extra large and extra sweet.
And then...
I'm walking across a parking lot and my legs just stopped.
I couldn't move them. They felt like they was planted in cement.
After a couple minutes I could walk again.
I was on the road trucking with my Ex husband for about 10 years.
Had to make a stop and use the restroom.
Bam.. leg lock.
After a couple of months of not being able to move freely I decided to go home and stay there.
It was getting harder. I went from a mile to less than 100 feet before I would have to stop.
Wait a couple minutes and go along.
That was about 7 years ago now.
I walked into a clinic and explained to the doctor,
I can't walk across the parking lot without my legs locking up.
Yup, You need an MRA.
A what?
An MRA, you have a blockage in your arteries.
You know that because I said I couldn't walk across the parking lot?
Yup, I see it all the time in older people.
So I got an MRA.
Seems there is a blockage in my main artery between my belly button and my pelvic bone.
When the blood don't get through to my legs, they stop working.
Operation cost $400,000.00 to replace my aorta with some fancy rubber tube.
And 4-5 months recovery. No lifting, no driving, no nothing.
I had insurance but no one to help me for that amount a time.
Funny thing was, my Ex got the same thing, except his was higher up and was shutting down his kidneys and other organs.
So he went and had the operation. I took care of him for tthe 4-5 months recovery.
But when it came time for me, well, somebody had to go to work and pay the bills.
So I never had it done.
I did some research to find out how this happened.
Sugar.
Yup that extra large and extra sweet done me in.
See sugar has a nasty habit of scratching the lining of the arteries.
Once you have scratches, then the cholesterol snuggles on in and takes up residence.
After some years of build up it starts to get crusty.. like solid.. like cement.
And it stops the blood flow to the legs or wherever the blood is blocked from going.
It's been about 7 years. I have trouble walking around the stores or going to the mailbox.
Somedays it's hard to get to the bathroom.. only about 20 feet away.
The medical term for what I have is called Occlusion of the Aorta.
And the only way to fix it is to replace it.
I only use a little milk in my coffee now.
I avoid a lot of sweets.
Try buying anything without some form of sugar, it's next to impossible.

So I just put this here for all those Dunkin Donut fans who love their coffee Extra Large and Extra Sweet..
If your still walking pretty good, do yourself a favor and cut back as best you can.
And maybe if there is someone who is having trouble walking across a parking lot,
and it feels like your legs just won't move.
Get yourself to a doctor and ask for an MRA.
You just might be able to reverse it before it gets so solid they can't put a stint in it.

I still love my coffee
:)
Hugs

I'm so sorry for your pain and limitations, I pray God will find a way... :)
And, thank you for the very informative post. Can't wait to share it with my doc. She is a diabetic specialist. She fully believes that if we get and keep our glucose in range that everything else will fall into place such as "cholesterol" :)
God bless and keep you,
Nancy

PS: God is our provider but, would have been nice if the "Church" stepped up for you! :(

Wasn't anything anyone could really do.
I lived in Florida in a small town in the Ocala forest.
I didn't really know anyone.
And to be honest, I really didn't want that operation.
I did a no no. I watched a video for that procedure and it scared the ummm... thought of even having it done right out of me.
When my Ex woke up right after surgery, He looked me straight in the eye and said: "You don't want to do this" .
OKAY..
I saw the tubes, the metal staples, the scar that runs from the collar bone to the insides of both thighs..
And I agreed. I don't want that.
It's an inconvienence. But I'm Alive. And I am more afraid of the operating table then what's in my mailbox.
The Lord does a good job making sure the car runs when I need it. Or finding someone to fix it if it don't.
And He's pretty good at getting me to the bathroom on time too.
And I'm happy. And I'm thankful for everything I have.
This forum is a Blessing.
Amen

@Ziggy

So sorry about your problems.

Up here, Dunkin' Donuts came into the Canadian market a number of years ago. But they ended up pulling out again. Reason? because the locals thought the donuts were too sweet.... o_O

(This is the received wisdom about the Dunkin's that I heard, anyway....)

I heard Krispy Kreme can be pretty sweet too.
I don't know if they have them in Canada.
Thank You
Everybody has problems.
In some of the threads I talk about being disabled but never went into detail
I just figured I'd share how I got where I am so maybe others can either avoid
getting where I am or maybe identify if they start experiencing the same symptoms.
I never thought about arteries. I thought I had a lower back problem like a pinched nerve
and it was stopping me in my tracks.
I really don't like going to the doctors. If I get a yearly check up, they're lucky to get me in there.
If I'm not dying it will pass.
And the only reason I was at the clinic was because my ex was getting a CDL exam for truck driving.
He told me to tell the doctor. And I took his advice.
5 days I was in the hospital doing all kinds of tests.
They drew a diagram on the bed sheets with a magic marker to explain the problem.
They drew a Big upside down letter Y. The branches are the legs. And placed a big blot where the blockage was.
Real scientific..lol.. But easily understood.
It's more frustrating than painful. It's like trying to wade through quicksand.
And they get tired or the muscles aren't getting the blood needed to move them.
But if I stand still for a minute or two it's like a recharge.
But the time between stops gets shorter and shorter until I sit down.
That's free walking. If I have a market carriage to lean on I can keep moving pretty good.
My dad has some walkers around the house my grandma used to use.
I'm just hoping it will be awhile before they are my last resort.
But it's all good.
:)

Hello Ziggy.....Those doctors have a plan, a $400,000 plan. That's a plumber who knows how to relabel the sickness industry and call it the health industry. The system is geared to exploit.

Wisdom dictates that we take charge and responsibility for our own health and not buy into the horse sh.t of dunkin' donuts, crispy cremes and any of those other fast and furious health decayers that make out you're getting a good deal.

Every industry has a relabeler.
Every policy doesn't always mean what the title says.
Affordable Care Act.
At the time I found out I had this we didn't have insurance.
I called the marketplace and didn't qualify because I didn't have an income.
I worked with my ex husband over the road trucking. I was the secretary/receptionist/and helper like tarping and chaining down loads.
I was able to go as a "rider", I wasn't employed by the company he worked for. I was just able to go along for the ride.
So because I didn't have an income I didn't qualify for the ACA.
I had to go on SSI and medicaid to be able to pay for the initial diagnosis.

When your young you don't think about the effects your actions have later on.
I didn't. I just liked my coffee.
And being on the road is hard. You don't eat right. Everything is buffet restaurant greasy fast food.
You don't get much exercise. You sit for most the day and when your not sitting your trying to grab a couple hours of sleep.
He liked to drive long and hard. Always on schedule no matter how far or obstacles along the way.
The first year or so I enjoyed seeing the country. I been to all the states except Alaska and Hawaii.
After that it was just one highway after another. All cities looked the same.
The different terrain was nice but after awhile you get tired of looking at cows and corn.

But I had only been doing that for 10 years.
The coffee and sugar started a long time before that.
I remember getting up early in the morning and having a cup of coffee with my dad before he went to work at 6am.
I was about 3 years old. And I liked my coffee sweet.
I'm 55 now. I should have a lot more energy but I feel like I'm 70.
Even some 70 year olds have more energy than me lol.

It is what it is.. if I'd only known then what I know now..
I have no idea where I would be today, that's for sure.

Thank You for you reply
Hugs

Alternate binging on uncooked fruits (not smoothied if you can), and abstinence from foods. Listen to your appetite when insists on something else, but train it. Use sources of water directly from plants. The molecules are encased in enzymes which allows the pure water to reach capilaries, your finest blood vessel, which spring water can't. Distilled water has no enzymes. The best sources I know of is coconut water (not bottled) and here in pennsylvania, maple water.

People are usually surprised when I tell them I'm 45 but I can only brag on mom for emphasizing the importance of good food choices.
