The apostle Peter wrote about humility.

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may
exalt you at the proper time" (1Pet 5:6)

The koiné Greek word for "humble" is tapeinophrosune (tap-i-nof-ros-oo'
nay) which means lowliness of mind; viz: modesty, which Webster's defines
as freedom from conceit or vanity. Humility can also be defined as ranking
oneself low in a hierarchy or scale; for example:

"Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of
heaven." (Matt 18:4)

"greatest' is a category. In other words: there is more than one great person
in heaven certainly. But Jesus taught it is better that you be made great
than to make yourself great, e.g. Luke 14:8-11, and Matt 23:2-7,

Humility is very rare on internet forums. Everyone is striving to be heard, to
be understood, to get their own two cents in, to be valued, and to be
accepted as an equal or better. But that's a bad, bad attitude.

Phil 2:3 . .With humility of mind, let each of you regard one another as
more important than himself.

Non humble people-- the quarrelsome, the assertive, the confrontational,
the bigoted, the argumentative, the opinionated, the pushy, the conceited--
tend to regard any and all disagreements with their way of thinking as
demeaning attacks upon their core values and their distorted sense of self
worth. These people have very little interest in harmony; they're stand-up
fighters whose primary interest is survival.

Seeing as how the kingdom of heaven is reputedly a place of peace, then the
non humble cannot be allowed to go there. For sure they'd just end up
making things very uncomfortable for the kingdom's mild-mannered, affable
society.

Matt 5:3 . . Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.

In Philippians 2, Paul reminds his readers that the Lord Jesus 'humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name that is above every name'.

Himself

Peter also reminds his readers to go; and do thou likewise.

1Pet 2:21-23 . . Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you
should follow in his steps. . . .When they vilified him, he did not vilify in
return

One way to vilify in return is by recriminations; defined by Webster's as a
retaliatory accusation-- a very common tactic among politicians; which no
one familiar with their ways would ever consider humble. To my knowledge,
no candidate yet has won an election via humility. When they're not busy
destroying their opponent's public image, they're busy building theirs up.

Another common vilification is toxic rejoinders; which can be defined as ugly,
sarcastic remarks in response to a criticism.

Needless to say; non humble people are simply unable to turn the other
cheek-- they have to counterattack, they have to hit back.

Luke 18:13-14
[13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. [14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

“...for every one that exalts himself shall be abased.” Sobering in that if by our own power in the flesh we exalt ourself, we are abased. Daniel 4:37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

Consider “...those that walk in pride he is able to abase” even if they haven’t realized it yet are abased in that there is only one way: John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

oneself low in a hierarchy or scale; for example:

Romans 8:20
[20] For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

The hope and freedom from vanity:
Matthew 11:29-30 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Once again consider Nebuchadnezzar Daniel 4:32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

2 Peter 1:21
[21] For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

2 Timothy 1:1
[1] Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

Romans 9:15-16
[15] For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. [16] So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

John 1:13
[13] Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Consider the freedom He has given from the bondage of vanity in that it is of God’s will and not man’s will...Romans 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.
