If I pray to a god then according to Paul in 2Corinthians 4:4 & Revelation 12:9 &
1 Corinthians 8:5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords")
I may be praying to Satan because Satan is called the “god of this world.”
2 Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
& 2 Corinthians 11:15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as ministers and servants of righteousness. (Their end will be what their actions deserve.)
Myriads of other god deities have been worshiped by man throughout history. YHWH (Jehovah) is the Hebrew Name for the Creator of everything. The name YHWH (Jehovah) means 'The One who is self-existent; the same and equally present in all phases of time, past, present, and future.'
YHWH commanded over and over again that we know and call on His real Name.

John 14:14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Isaiah 65:1 "I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, 'Here am I, here am I.'
1 Kings 8:43 Hear you in heaven your dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calls to you for: that all people of the earth may know your name, to fear you, as do your people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have built, is called by your name. Psalm 145:18 YHWH is near to all them that call on him, to all that call on him in truth. (Luke 11:2 KJV) And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name (YaHWeH). Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. According to Scripture and Yahushua’s (Jesus Christ) own words we sin when we do not use His name when context calls for it. Exodus 33:19 The LORD replied, "I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you. For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.

& John `1:13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

We are CURSED when we do not use YaHWeH name!
NOTE : TRADITION-FREE VERSION:
(Mal 2:1-2 TFV & Deuteronomy 28:15) And now, O ye priests , this commandment is for you.{2} If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith YHWH of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.
(Exo 9:16 KJV) And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to show in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.
Matthew 24:14 Malachi 1:6 "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? Says Yahweh of Armies to you, priests, who despise my name. You say, 'How have we despised your name?' Malachi 2:1 "Now, you priests, this commandment is for you
Malachi 2:2 If you will not listen, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name," says Yahweh of Armies, "then will I send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have cursed them already, because you do not lay it to heart.
The true God has given himself a name and it is found in the bible at Psalms 83:18 and Isaiah 42:8. His name is Jehovah or ( YAHWEH ) and it is crucial to use His name in order for our prayers to be heard and to please God. We must also pray in the name of His son Jesus Christ in order to be heard by God for no one comes to the father except through Jesus.
"God require to be feared as a Lord, honored as a Father, loved as a Husband. Which is chiefly of these? Love. Without this, fear has torment, honor has no grace. Fear, when not freed by love, is servile. Honor, which cometh not from love, is not honor, but adulation. Honor and glory belong to God Alone; but neither of them will God accept, unless seasoned with the honey of love."
Galatians 6:7 Make no mistake about this: You can never make a fool out of God. Whatever you plant is what you'll harvest.
"Saith the Lord unto you, O priests, who despise My Name," literally "despisers of My Name," habitually beyond others. The contempt of God came especially from those bound most to honor him. priests, as consecrated to God, belonged especially to God . "Malachi begins his prophecy and correction by the correction of the priests; because the reformation of the state and of the laity hangs upon the reformation of the clergy and the priest, Hosea 4:9, 'And what the priests do, the people also do.' So now I will punish both priests and people for their wicked deeds

If you went into a room full of Gods and you called out, "Hey God" everyone of them would turn around because they are all Gods. However if called out the personal name of the God you are addressing, only that god would turn around. ( 1Corinthians 8:5 )

"And ye say, Wherein have we despised Thy Name?" Before, it was ignorance of God's love: now it is ignorance of self and of sin. They affect to themselves innocence and are unconscious of any sin. They said to themselves doubtless (as many do now) "we cannot help it; we do the best we can, under the circumstances." Without some knowledge of God's love, there can be no sense of sin; without some sense of sin, no knowledge of His love. They take the defensive, they are simply surprised, like Cain, Genesis 4:9, "Am I my brother's keeper?" or many of the lost in the day of judgment Matthew 7:22-23, "Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy Name? And in Thy Name have cast out devils? And in Thy Name done many wonderful works?" and yet were all the while "workers of iniquity," to whom He will say, "I never knew you." And Matthew 25:44, Matthew 25:46 says: "Lord, when saw we Thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto Thee?" And yet they "shall go away into everlasting punishment."

However, using YAH's Name in vain is an offense (crime) that is listed in the Mosaic Code as meriting the death penalty.
So have respect for the Name of YAH .

I recall having the same conversation with a JW on this subject. They believe as you do. I do not think that Father or our Lord would mind anyone calling them by their known names in our own language or dialect. It is also quite easy for those who have the Holy Spirit [the third person of the trinity] dwelling in him to define the difference between the many gods that exist out there and the Godhead...JMHO :)

Bless you and welcome aboard!
