Galatians 3:28,
Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
When we deal with the proper identity of believers, everything that made you who you are has to be let go. So like the Apostle Paul you let have to let it go in veiw of the new creation you. Example; whatever your ethic background is, jew, gentile, german, Italian, or native american. It all counts as nothing in the new birth. Your ethnicity came from your natural birth, but in Christ there is no jew nor gentile. As a human being the tendency will always be for graduating toward the outer things in life. There is no mixing the two together, there are no Christian jews, at least not in scripture, there are people that were jewish and got saved and became Christians but you can't mix the two together.
When I lived on a reservation for a while, I saw that many people would mix their background with their new life. You can't do that and have proper identity. You are either going to choose to live and walk in the spirit, or still find your identity in your previous life. I know that is not an easy thing for people to give up, it is their everything. I'm sure Paul wrestled with identity, but until you do you will not know the difference in your life and as Paul said "the life I live now is Christ." So the choice is; am I going to live in the new creation life that has come to me just like my natural birth, or am I going to live apart from my new creation life by improper identity. Choices, life is full of choices, the Lord will never require anything from you that you don't know, but once the knowledge comes to you and you hear the word, that changes how he will handle you.
You may not understand completely, that's ok, he will handle you accordingly. What we do is open up to the HolySpirit to be taught by him the things of God. We have had so much mismanagement and mishandling of the word of God by men that the HolySpirit begins to gently guide you into a proper and fuller understanding. Being taught by him but we must yield to him, he will not give you a stone. He teaches you what you need to know to live a life that was intended to be lived.
Your proper identity as a believer is Christ in you. Christ as life, and you are one, with that life coming by being born again. Nothing you will ever do can inhance that or make it work better. The only thing that can happen to you is you learn about it, you can only live what you know to live. All the religion in the world cannot help you, the only help is knowing your proper identity and living accordingly. To some Christians that is good news, to other's they still want to work this thing out and be something in themselves, something their father can be proud of. That is not what Paul said, living out the new creation life as planned is the father's pride.
