No one in the Old Testament had a inner work of God. It was always a outer work as the Spirit came upon men to do a work for God. Never was there mind renewal going on in the since we have today nor a life as we know life today (the person of Christ in you). There was plenty of activity that went on and God trying to get men to do right, giving them rules to follow for fellowship and prosperity and some form of punishment for not performing up to the standard that was set, but nothing like today.
If you get in that dilemma today and feel God is punishing you then you are still looking at your father as the Old Testament God. Punishment and correction are on two opposite ends of the spectrum. The reason he was just an Old Testament God to people was; He had none to be Father to. There was no born again in the Old Testament, there were none birthed from on high, and there was no cross (the lamb of God from the foundation of the world) to bring about the original plan of God, Eph. 1:4, that would allow God to birth His Own children by Christ in them. Christ in you is the birthing (born again) of God. Christ the seed of God in every believer from the point of the cross! Glory to God.
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. - Revelation 13:8.
On the day of Pentecost; the Holyspirit came and His Spirit was poured out on all flesh. In other words he was going to be in man now, in the soul of man, and draw them and to teach them Christ as believers. He would bring men to Christ and His main ministry after a birth takes place was to teach them about their new life which was Christ in you. So you can see how very important your understanding of the Holyspirit will be to understanding Christ as life. It is imperative a believer see's Christ in them as life because it is Christ that reveals the Father. That is how you will see your Father, by Christ.
Point being; if your Old Testament God understanding is keeping you from understanding your father; you will have to see Christ as life. That is the beginning of understanding the deep things of God that must be revealed. Bless you.
27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. - Matthew 11:27.
22 All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. - Luke 10:22.
