1 John 2:3-4 [KJV], "And hereby do we know that we know him [Jesus], if we keep His commandments. He that says, I know Him, and keeps not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."
John was the Disciple and later Apostle which Jesus specially loved. Therefore, John's writings about knowing Jesus are far more valid than those of Paul in Phil. 3:9-10, where Paul tries so very hard to say righteousness before God through faith is how one can "know Jesus." But, Paul never lived with or followed Jesus as did Apostle John. Paul was imagining what no other NT author wrote.
So, according to Specially Loved Apostle John, keeping Jesus' Commandments was the only way to know Him. Tell me, which of Jesus' Commandments can anyone actually follow? Remember, no place in Jesus' Words or in any of The Apostles' writings is the notion of "trying to keep Jesus' Commandments" ever mentioned. One either does, or does not, obey Jesus' Commandments.
Do you ever hear someone say they can keep Jesus' Commandments? If they cannot recite all of them from memory, they cannot keep them. They have proven they do not have the Commandments of Jesus, and thereby cannot keep them.
As well, not all aspects of Jesus are contained in The Bible. There is far, far more to Him than in Scripture. If someone claims to "know Him," they then should be easily able to give clear information about Jesus beyond which is disclosed in Scripture. But, no person can do that. Never happens. We can only know Jesus according to what is said about Him in The Bible.
