Look upon the cross of our lord and savior as like a serpent Moses raised in the wilderness that all of the Israelites, freed from Egypt after 400 years, who were bitten by poisonous apps, while wondering in the desert 40 years, would be healed by God.
It were better for them of Sodom and Gomorrah than for the Jews who rejected Christ Jesus. Jesus proclaimed Father forgive them they know not what they do. But some of the Israelites loved their master and honored him Jesus with adoration and tears including family and freinds, but only two theives were killed next to him. Not apostles nor his followers? Jesus was soon to join one in paradise. He was openly mocked, beaten and killed, shamed openly like the servants of the Lord's vineyard parable. One of the theives stood up to the other who also was mocking Jesus and said, "we surely deserve our deaths, but Him Jesus has done nothing wrong. Jesus was turned over by the crowd in an open judgement by Roman government over the Israelites, and given an option to free either Jesus or a murderer. Rome gave them a choice, as it was customary to free one capital punishment prisoner.
So look not back to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Instead for those that need healing they look upon the cross.
Our lord defeated that old serpent and his master death. And arrived at his tomb before Mary and others, honored by his Holy Angels and loved by his family and freinds.
He descended into the heart of the earth 3 days and arose from death and appeared to some and many were resurrected who also appeared to many (500 as Paul stated). Those accounts are eye witness records stored in the holy bible which is the written record of the Israelites and also earth history as one of the written histories, namely Israel, Christianity included and other accounts in written historical records.
Look upon Jesus, for some it is the cross, like children of God needing a symbol of healing comfort to remember, others God has given to look to a risen symbol which is more than a symbol, but in fact a living God, the risen and alive forevermore Lord and savior who has eternal life for God's children. Some look upon the cross and also the risen lord. Any which way they are a loving God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I think all who believe know he is risen. Along the journey from childhood to adult Christian we step along pathways in following Christ our lord to eternal life he has to offer us. For those on earth he also supplies life and desires our happiness and salvation.
In the manner of looking away from denying Christ is the savior of mankind like some of the wicked persons of the spiritual city of Sodom and Egypt, and also the destruction of Soddom and Gomorrah, look upon the cross for comfort, and find that he is risen instead. As we look up as becoming like little children we hope to see Jesus, and if not we know he lives in our hearts and prayers and loves and protects us from the forces of evil. He comes after his children. Even the lost sheep who wonder off or await his return. That is how powerful his love is for each and every child of God.
