This is a jewish teaching translation of Ez.38 it gives the verse then the Jewish teaching of the meaning of each the verse thought with all the stuff going on in Israel you might find what the modern Jewish teaching on the war GoG Magogscenioro is, of interest:(Mashiach or Moshiach loosely means Savior)(Yisraail or yisroel basically Israel or Israeli)(Hashem or G-d = God) free translation of the Malbim on some of these verses: Quote: Yechezkiel 38

...at the end of days, all the nations will battle around Jerusalem. On one side will be Egypt, Syria, and Eilam who are Ishmaelites, and on the other side will be Meshech and Tuval [nations ruled by Gog] and the princes of Edom, and the king of the North and each will kill his brothers and they will fall among the fallen. Chazal accepted that three times Gog will come against Jerusalem. Here it is describing the first two times. The third is described in Zecharia 14. We don't know who is Gog or the land of Magogo except that he is the Nasi (president) of Meshech and Tuval who are sons of Yafes (Europeans) and are not circumcized. They will awaken at the end of days after Israel has settled in Eretz Yisroel and will have sat in tranquility. They will come against them, and this will be via an awakening from Hashem. C) Hashem wanted at the end of days to gather in the place of the rasha, referring to the children of Ishmael, under whom Yisrael was exiled and suffered many evils and sufferings, and there He will bring them down to the valley of Yehoshefat [in Jerusalem]. D) He (Gog) will go against his will. Many volunteers will join them -- Persia, on the other side will go also soldiers of Ishmael, menaning Persia Cush and Put. Persia is brothers with Eilam, Kush is close to Syrai, and Put is close to Egypt. These are the nations mentioned above. Also, Gomer (who are not circumcized). Also Turkey, who will go with the other side (Egypt). The Egyptian side will be with Edom, but will really be against them. Edom is charged with keeping them from evil deeds, because the moment the Ishmaelites will begin to do wickedness in Jerusalem, the Edomim will rise against them and kill them, and from this will come that they (Ishmaelites) will kill the Edomites and it will be fighting between them. "In the end of years you will come to a land restored from the sword, gathered from many nations, upon the mountains of Israel which had laid desolate continuously [to people] who had been brought out from the nations , all of them dwelling in security." They will have returned from many exiles and been gathered to their land from all the different nations where they were scattered who permitted them to leave and settle in the land. They have no war with anyone, and you have no claim on which to come against them. Many civilians will join the army (like a cloud covering the earth). You [Gog] want to fill the land with population and not in destruction. At first you won't konw whether you come to destroy the land and to exile its inhabitants ("like a Shoah") or only to take control there and to return many peoples there to protect it. Onec you are there, I [Hashem](God) will put in your head what you hadn't thought of earlier -- that there is no need to conquer the land, and soldiers will not earn honor, for three reasons: a) geography (for which an argument will be found);
cool.gif
the nation knows how to fight those around it (argument -- they are not fighters, they sit peacefully and aren't preparing to fight); c) if the cities are protected by walls (not protected). Since there will be no glory from this war, the intention will only be a) to seize booty;
cool.gif
to destroy the land; c) economic reasons. Only when Gog comes against Yisrael will the world know who it is. "It shall be on that day that Gog comes against the soil of Yisrael...my anger will flare up...a great earthquake will take place on the soil of Yisrael. They will quake before me." -- fish, birds, beasts, insects, and "every human being that is on the face of the earth; the mountains will be broken apart, the cliffs (targum: "towers") will topple, and every wall will topple to the ground. (This is Zecharia 14). Metzudas Dovid: "A great shaking will be in the world" Malbim: or, the quaking will come as a figure of speach from the size of the war and the roar of the artillery and weaponry that will be in the end of days, which destroys mountains and brings down fortified walls with a very great and mighty sound...the mountains themselves will be destroyed to kill those in them (?) and to seal them in (?). Not from an external enemy, but that Edom and Yishmael will battle one another. Initially, it will look like "chance" and nature, but then supernatural (hail, firestones) will indicate that it is the hand of G-d. Zechara 6 (vision of 4 horses, chariots) The second chariot has black horses -- this is Rome, who spill much blood. It heads to the North. The third chariot has white horses -- after the rule of Rome will cease, another rule will begin which doesn't spill so much blood, and won't be so bad to Yisrael, and the exile will become easier around the world...because the white signifies doers of Chesed (note: the Rebbe always referred to the US as "medina shel chesed"). The fourth chariot has spotted and gray horses -- these are the kingdoms which wil arise close to the time of redemption. The black heads nroth (evil comes from the North...will destroy Jerusalem), while the white went in various directions, the other two went South -- close to the days of Moshiach a distinct(?) rule will arise which will stand from the white ones, only they will find in them black and white spots, because they will also be awakened for war, and God and Magog will come from them who will come from the end of the North to the South which is Eretz Yisrael. Then they will divide into two camps, each fighting with the other as explained in Ezekiel 38/39. That in the end of days the children of Edom will be awakened who will be the spotted ones to conquer Eretz Yisrael from the hands of the Yishmaelim who are the gray ones ("amutzim") because they will "attempt" ("te'amtzu") to stand against the combatants and they will battle. It will be in their minds to grab the rule of the spotted ones and to go to their land for war. But they will only request to do so, because they will fall among those who fall around Jerusalem in the war of Gog and Magog. Zecharia 8:8 (ten gentiles will grab each tzitzis) Malbim: Now it informs about another matter -- what will be at the end of days when they will recognize the faith of Israel and their Torah and they will believe in the Torah of Hashem because it is holy. And then they won't go to Jerusalem to seek the faith, only the Ishmaelites will recognize the faith of the religion of Yisrael and then they will no longer to from one city to another and from there to Jerusalem to seek out Hashem. Only the Ishmaelites will seek the true faith from them outh of Yisrael, and they will recognize that G-d is with Yisroel.(Isreal)..if they will see tzitzis on the corners of his garment from this they know he is a Jew (because tzitzis indicate keeping mitzvos and also on the indwelling of the shechina(glory) in Yisrael...and they wont go to Jerusalem they will only go with a Jew to learn his religion and faith because they will know that G-d is with Israel. It was told to them that at that time when this will occur it will no longer be as it once was that the wod of Hashem is in one special place in Jerusalem or in Eretz Yisrael,(Whole land of Isreal) because at that time it is brought above that in those days when ten gentiles will grab the tzitzis, etc., the word of Hashem and prophecy will be found also in lands very far (from Eretz Yisrael). And of the Jew that is found there they will ask of him the word of G-d that will be disbursed in the entire nation (see Joel 3). 9:13 In the future, at the time of Gog and Magog, the children of Ephraim will be awakened, these are the ten tribes, and they will serve as a bow of Hashem to make war with Gog and Magogo. Then the children of Ephraim will kill the soldiers of Gog and Magog who were warring against them with "cherev hakeshes" (sword of the bow). Against the soldiers of Gog and Magog who will come from the South to make them disappear. 10:2 The verse hints that before the coming of Moshiach idols and magicians will arise, as well as dreamers of dreams who will mislead the people with emptiness and then they will know that these things are truly nothing...I will strengthen the House of Yehudah since they are weak and crushed, and the House of Yosef who are strong but are pushed away and lost I will save and return them to their place in Eretz Yisrael. Because until now I wasn't their G-d and I didn't heed their prayers. All ten tribes are included in the name Ephraim and they will be awakened then with might to fight the wars of Hashem. 10:7 ...their hearts will rejoice in Hashem a new rejoicing every moment from themiracles that Hashem will do for them and for the G-dly appearence that will increase always...Also those from the children o fYehuda who, from the oppressions will have removed themselves from Hashem and mixed with the nations, similar to sowing, that by sowing the seed in the earth it will sprout in greater abundence, similarly through them will be increased greatly the number of gentiles who in the future will be familiar with the true religion, until it will be like sowing...even though their bodies will be far from me, in their hearts they will remember faith and unity and they will not die a death of the soul neither them nor their children who will be born to them, because "they will live with their sons and return" to Hashem, the G-d of their fathers. And then I will return the pushed-away ones in Egypt and those lost in Syria who are even further. 12:3 "I will gather all the goyim against Jerusalem." The soldiers of Gog and Magog will all gather to conquer (the land) from the hands of the Ishmaelites who burdened it. Those who gather against them will at first be from the fewer masses (?) [hamonim hapachosim] and the kings of the Ishmaelites will war against them...like a crazy person does things from his imagination, irrationally, so will their gathering toghether be irrational and without an orderly purpose. And when they conquer Jerusalem, bnei Yisrael will be in golus Edom in danger. They won't see who they are fighting because they will kill each other (each man his brother) and then Moshiach ben Yosef and the children of Yehuda will then be strengthened...I will bring the goyim who are the soldiers of Gog to Eretz Yisrael to be burned there...and so too will they burn the Ishmaelites in their places and in their lands. In the future Jerusalem will distance itself from where it is now to the South a distance of 45 mil and that is where the city shall be. Where Jerusalem is now will be for Hashem's Cohanim and the holy Temple). At the war of Gog, Jerusalem will still be sitting in its original place (where it is now). It won't move until the end of all the wars. The first time (of the three times) that Gog will come they will not arrive to Jerusalem, they will only reach the hills of Yehuda and seek to do evil to them in their cities and in their tents, and then Hashem will save them through a miracle...The people of Jerusalem will all be tzaddikim. 13:1 On that day living waters from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea, etc. This is after the last war of Gog and Magogo...after the first war it will only be for Beis Dovid and the residents of Jerusalem (as explained in Ezekiel) that this is an analogy for the spreading out fo the waters of knowledge and faith which are likened to water. ...[a reference to ] the prophets of Ba'al that will still be found in India, China, and Japan who will still worship idols, leading men to emptiness with their "prophecy." There will still be found in the land of Yisrael prophets of the religion of the Koran who fall on the ground like they are epileptic and speak words of prophecy in the name of their false prophet in the impure spirit that is sent upon them...in those days the sword will be awakened on the man who says that he is the shepherd of Hashem, meaning, on the prophet of the Ishmaelites and those who believe in his religion that claimed that Hashem(GOD) sent him to be the shepherd of the world, and on the man who says that he is the partner and friend of Hashem and is equal to Him...and the Ishmaelites who believe in him. They will fight each other until only a third remain, these being the believers in the true faith. 14 In the end of days the children of Edom will gather to take Jerusalem from the Ishmaelites...many will be exiled from Jerusalem but not all. Har Hazaysim (Mount of Olives) will split in the middle between the east side and the west, and the mountain will move -- half to the northand half to the south, and between the two halves of the mountain will remain a large valley, and if the matter is as simply stated it is as in Ezekiel (48) that Jerusalem in the future will be far from the Har Habayis 45 mil. From the valley will go out the great earthquake that will dismantle moutnains...Hashem will be "jealous" from those who argue against the honor of the Jewish religion and their holiness... at that time the light of the sun and moon will cease illuminating the world. Hashem(GOD) himself will be the light of the world, there will no longer be an existence of a physical light.
