Was on another thread and the topic came up about animals in heaven. I don’t like taking a thread sideways so decided to start a new one.
The basic argument was animals have soul and when they die they go to heaven. It might not be the same heaven humans go to, but they too reunite with God.
A friend of mine was telling me he sets traps on his property to catch stray cats. I asked if he takes them to the shelter and he said no, he sends them kitty heaven. I thought that was just a nice way of saying it since before I didn’t think there was such a thing. If there is b/c animals do have a soul, should my friend pray forgiveness? I wouldn’t call it murder, but if a soul is involved and killing the cat was gratuitous, it seems like it could be a sin?

The sin would be the cruelty of his heart. I hope he comes to know the Lord and have a change in his heart.

Btw, in the USA, cruelty to animals can land a person in jail or at least with a fine. But usually it's more than a fine.

To tell you from my own experience, I hurt a cat unintentionally, and then it died, I felt guilty and ashamed for a long time, and one day, I woke up, I noticed cat scratches on my body, bleeding and scabs. I didn't care at first, after that I often noticed cat scratches on my body when I woke up. I slept with my clothes on, but the cat scratches were under my clothes. By the way, there were no pets at home that time. Until I realized that it was the dead cat telling me that it was still alive, maybe it hated me, maybe it was comforting me in its way. Cat scratches haven't been seen since I realized it was still there somewhere, not just dead.

The guy is more religious than I am. He’s more of a god’s wrath on the wicked kind of religious than the be kind to the least of us. He’s probably a member of this forum.
I’m a little conflicted because God gave us domain over the animals. I’m fairly confident he’s not doing it to be cruel, or in a cruel way. I know the law still would call it animal cruelty.
It’s definitely a sin if he’s using it as a relief for all the times he’s been wronged. I know he has been wronged, dealt some bad cards, treated unfairly. It’s definitely a sin if he’s thinking like it’s someone he would like to hurt. I have faith it’s neither of those.
