Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Fellowship . . . Koinonia

Koinonia is a sharing, first, in the Gospel. We all believe the same Gospel, that Jesus Christ died for our sins, and trusting in Him we are redeemed. We share that same Gospel with others, and this too is koinonia.

Philippians 1:5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

Philemon 1:6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

We are bound together into a new tree, originating in Christ instead of Adam, branching by the spread of the gospel, building a new humanity.

Christ gives us that fellowship with each other, He is Who makes us one.

1 Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

Philippians 2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

Koinonia of the blood and body of Christ. Koinonia of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. These supply us with communion, we all share in the True Vine.

Koinonia is the sharing of our things with others. Sharing makes us one.

Romans 15:26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.

2 Corinthians 9:13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men;

Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

We share ourselves, even if others give the gift, when we serve the needs of others, it gives us koinonia with those we serve, and those we serve with.

2 Corinthians 8:4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

Meeting other's needs, choosing to love them, choosing to put their needs ahead of our own, and receiving God's provisions through our brother's and sister's hands, is koinonia between us.

1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Koinonia is a shared reality. We walk in the light, therefore, we have communion with those who walk in the light , and with God, Who is the Light.

Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Jesus suffered being tested, He suffered in obedience, He set us an example in suffering, and suffering for His sake brings koinonia with Him, and with those who suffer. The shared experience of suffering makes us one.

Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

The fellowship of the mystery:

Ephesians 3:16-19

16) That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17) That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18) May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
19) And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Much love!

Correct. Fellowship is a critical aspect of Christianity. It is mind-boggling that God and Christ desire to have eternal fellowship with those who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. And fellowship among believers on earth is not an option. Yet it is extremely difficult to find genuine fellowship among Christians, which involves unity of heart, mind, and spirit.

Agreed 100%. VERY difficult to find genuine fellowship. WE NEED ONE ANOTHER! Sad really, how so many just come to church on Sundays...or Saturdays, yet throughout the week have nothing to do with God. I've never craved fellowship like I do at this point in time. And, yes...this board and all who are on it...IS my fellowship. The rest is just perfunctory and disunity :(

@Nancy You'll enjoy these verses from 1 John 1.3-7: :)

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

I agree, as DH and I have personally experienced problems finding genuine fellowship/close friendship with fellow believers. We retired several years ago and have had to move a couple of times/change churches and have found it to be very challenging even though we were involved in serving.

Despite that, it has taught me to have an even closer relationship to the Lord and rely on Him for ALL things. Occasionally he reminds me that I am not alone .... that He is indeed WITH me and for me - for which I am very thankful and grateful.

@skybloo True fellowship is indeed Godward in focus, first and foremost, about shared convictions, as the verses posted to Nancy, above, show:

"That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

It's interesting what you wrote . . . fellowship among believers on earth is not an option.

I'd agree, in the sense that it's not optional. Because if we are in Christ, then we are all partakers of the One True Bread from heaven, and this does in fact make us one.

We are united with Christ, and this unites us with each other.

And then there is the fact that we don't always act united.

So I look at it the same as any other sin. We've been reborn, and we are made righteous and holy, and now we have to be retrained in our minds towards who we've become.

Isn't it the same with koinonia? That God has united us, and now, in accepting that truth by faith, we are being trained into it?

Much love!
