5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; - Philippians 3:5-10.

Paul and his understanding, or should say his revelation of Christ, allows us to see Paul was at the top of his religion. He had been trained and taught every aspect of law and Jewish religion and none could top Paul. They might have been as good as Paul but none were better. He had the right components - a Hebrew of Hebrews-circumcised the eighth day-a Pharisee-blameless. He was everything you had to be to become a Pharisee. A religious zealot for starters but trained in all the Jewish nation believed about God. All they believed you needed to be in a relationship with God by the law and to excel. Paul succeeded in all this because we know he reached the top. When they stoned Steven they took Steven's clothes and laid them at the feet of Saul who would become Paul.

But what Paul does and we mentioned it before, he is showing our first parents and teaching is not what we need. As much as I care or don't care about my previous life Paul said it doesn't matter to believers. If anything your life (the word being my old life) will hinder you as you grow up into him. It has a self mentality of me trying to get God to be on my side. Paul is handing out the biggest piece of meat in scripture for believers.

When you were saved the Lord did wonderful things in your life and may have delivered you from some vice or addiction. We cherish those moments when we first met the Lord. However the Lord brought you out, we hold on to that as if it is a life line. What can happen is we will not turn loose of something to recieve something else. It is not losing something (Knowledge) as much as it is putting it on a shelf. What he did was the greatest of miracle's and put you on a path of knowing. On that path there will be other knowledges (my word) that will get worked into our understanding. The proper yielding to that teaching is what makes an on going believer. They surrender the mind of not knowing and their understanding to the HolySpirit so he can teach them Knowledge.

They learn they do not have to be right all the time but yielded, transformation is automatic. You cannot be yielded to the Holyspirit and not learn anything. You do not have to be a genius you just have to be yielded. Any student of scripture that yields to the Holyspirit will learn Christ because that is the main ministry of the Holyspirit. That is all you need to know any way, all life comes from a person (Christ in you) of understanding not so much of what you think you know. It will be in whom, not in what you know. Bless you.

@soul man It goes to show that Paul, after his conversion, truly gloried in the Gospel of the grace of God and in the Person and work of the Lord Jesus, and NOT in the flesh or in his religious works.

It is all so searching.

Addressing the OP. Good topic, in this segment of yours, God is looking for active sinners, not those just sitting under a tree playing dominos.

those who has a zeal, only a change in direction was needed. that's why in my oponion, the worst, devils, (humans), sometimes, when truly converted, makes the best leaders. they can see a lie coming before anyone else, because they know a lie ??????.... :D or anything else that is not approved of God. just get an old converted fox (now a dog), to guard the henhouse.... he knows all the tricks of the fox. 2 Corinthians 2:11 "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices." as the old saying goes, it takes one to know one.... (smile). and the apostle said, ....... "WE"...... :D YIKES!.

Ty.

Sometimes we maybe don't understand the sheer weight of the mindset that ppl raised on OT thinking might bring with them, even when professing the Gospel.

That is true, the Old Testament was my thing so to say. I had a hard to coming into new understanding because I was fixed in what I knew and it takes the Lord to move an individual. Until it's time we all stay where we are for a time.

@soul man Acts 16 speaks of 'Lydia, whose heart the Lord opened': this must indeed happen with every individual.

Hi Soulman!
Good post. It's all in the yielding and submitting. We tend to hold way to tight to things in this world. It seems pretty simple really, we can grow in Him at a fast rate or a slow rate. The more we submit, the more He fills us with His plans and blessings, amen! The more we let go of what we are grasping, the more He will fill our empty hands with His gifts to use to further His Gospel! Amen.
God Bless bro,
nancy
