    What do you mean. Lent?
Lent is the time before Easter, it spans 40 days and 40 nights from next tuesday (shrove tuesday) to Easter Sunday, it doesn't include Sundays as Sunday is the day of rest.Lent symbolises the fasting that Jesus went through before the passover. So it is a season of fasting, to give something up for lent is fasting of whatever that thing is.

Its a man made tradition we are to celebrate Gods Holy days and that of Passover God never tells us to celbrate Easter or a Lent leading up to Easter Easter is a pagan Holiday based on the goddess Ishtar After 410 years of slavery in Egypt, Moses told Pharaoh that he must "Let My People Go." Each time Pharaoh refused to release the Israelites, God brought another plague upon the Egyptians. The tenth and final plague was the death of firstborn children. In executing this plague, God passed through the land of Egypt, but "passed over" Hebrew homes. Thus, the holiday is called Passover. The Israelites were then released from bondage. But the Israelites only truly became free when, 50 days after the Exodus, they accepted the Torah from God at Mount Sinai.

Your right. The "word" Easter is only in there once in Acts 12:4. If we look in the Greek manuscripts... the Greek word is Pascha which clearly refers to Passover. And then we have this scripture.I Corinthians 5:7 - Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:This verse alone tells me that Passover is God's Holiday and not Easter. And Christ became my Passover. And my Lamb. Did you know Christ is most likely born in September... So that means Christ is conceived on Christmas Day?

You know, I really don't have a problem with Lent used to be a pagan holiday. That is not what it is being used for today, its being used to honor christ.....well at least supposed too.Heres my problem with lentI hear it all the time " Oh I really don't want to give up anything for lent, i guess I'll just give up chocolate again, because I have Too"when a fast is done for an obligation and not for God its a waste of time, like God said 1 Samuel 15:22 But Samuel replied: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.and I feel that the majority of people who give up something for lent aren't giving it up for God, but for an obligation.

Yeah that really irritates me, people should only give up something for Lent if they truely want to. I hate when people just do it because they "have to". It annoys me so much when people do things out of ritual rather than because they really mean it, I mean after all the 'holy men' of Jesus' day were called unholy be Jesus because they kept the rituals and got rid of the holiness and meaning behind them.QUOTE (Christina @ Feb 21 2009, 12:29 AM)

Thank you, both, and this year my fast is going to be done for God even if it isn't a food or drink that I am giving up, I am giving up something that is a huge temptatation to me and I am doing it in God's name. Also even if Easter was originally a Pagan festival it is now supposed to be the celebration of Jesus dying for us and being reborn, so every Easter I truely praise God for his sacrifice, it is an important celebration to me.

You know from what I have read 'Christian Easter' and 'Christian Passover' are basically by priniciple the same thing, it is a celebration of Jesus' death and raising for our sins right? So I guess technically it is the same thing just with a different name [IMG]

No they are different Passover celebrates God saving the Hebrews/us from the Angel of death when the plagues came upon Egypt Just as he will cause the plagues of the End time to Passover the true beliver ... Easter cebrates the death and resurection of Christ ... God never tells us to celbrate his death nor his resurrection ... And this was added by Catholic church to get pagans to join the church so they added it on a pagan holiday that celbrates the goddess of fertility Ishtar .. So if you celbrate that day celbrate it as passover and thank God for his saving grace.

well - well - well ....- how eager people are to defend the indefensible- how eager, to find more excuses to spin & attach christian meanings to pagan celebrations - simply because they like the 'warm & fuzzy' feeling these rituals give the conscience ...- how eager, to find more reasons to do what they like - than finding out what God meant when He said: " ... sanctify yourselves ...", seperate yourselves from the world ...- satan doesn't really need to get his spin doctors into gear, christians do all themselves - satan just needs to provide some pagan ritual feasts, sooner or later christians will label them 'acceptable'- how quick they are to 'remove the old landmarks' - Prov 23:10- religion really IS opium for the people.... at this rate, I can't hardly wait to see the first 'christian halloween' - since obviously 'how we feel about it - and how we dress it up' makes ALL the difference.NOT SO!One could learn a lot from 2 Kings 10:15-36- it is because of FEEBLE CHRISTIANS that the churches were able to compromise the Word- it is because of FEEBLE Christianity that the once blessed Nations are reaping curses- Tolerance is NOT in the Bible- Being zealous for the LORD is almost shameful todayThe sentimental, religious lies which have been peddled as 'having anything to do with God', are simply designed to soothe the undiscerning and gullible and bring them closer to accept rituals into their lives.- anyone having lived under the spiritual whip of hinduism, catholicism, islam and such - can confirm how ridiculous it is for christians to try and pretend these feasts and times are not pagan, and can be re-accepted into a christian's life - with the correct coat of paint- anyone else participating is either willfully ignorant of history and its connotations, or unknowingly ignorant - the outcome is the same in God's eyes.- but no christian can use that excuse - we know too much! Then it would have been better if they hadn't been saved, than turning again from the truth, trying to mask pagan rituals with christian wallpaper. Gal 4:8-10; 2 Peter 2:17-22; WHICH excuse are YOU going to bring forward on that dreadful day? - That YOU thought it'd be quite ok to feed that sentimental lust inside yourself?- YOU didn't want to hurt the feeliings of your loved ones - by telling them the truth? some love THAT is!- YOU figured you didn't want to be the outcast amongst all those other religious fanatics? What? the cost was too high?Just think on this: WHAT will be the NEXT thing/principle YOU will give up to avoid confrontation with your enemy?WHEN WILL YOU START TO DEFEND THE WORD OF GOD?.... lent? what a laugh! sucked in completely!
