An honest student of the word will learn something about themselves. The psychology on the matter is we all seem to have filters.
Everything you know about Jesus must come through that filter to accept it.
Most of the time I will reject anything I do not know anything about.
Most of the things I accept they fit my doctrine, my understanding.
Our doctrines are filters that cut out certain things and accept other things.
Not to say that is bad but a time will come when all believers are to move on in God.
It is at this point to grow in the things of God every believer has to yield to the HolySpirit, Romans 6:13
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Romans 6:16
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Romans 6:19
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
The main member these scriptures speak of is the mind, the mind is a member.
That is the only way we can grow, you will never grow hanging on to a doctrine good or bad, Hebrews 6:1-3
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3 And this will we do, if God permit
The perfection is your maturity in the deep things of God, a different wisdom than you used before to understand the things of God.
Paul said "we speak the wisdom of God."
We spend some time on our understanding getting what we know to be true.
We have studied and maybe made most of the Wednesday bible groups, been faithful to God in church attendance. That is good it really gives the HolySpirit something to work with as you yield to Him.
I will add at this point you will have to put your understanding on a shelf.
The HolySpirit will be fine teaching you without your help, if He needs what you know it will come off the shelf and will be used by Him.
Sounds funny doesn't it but try it and see how attached you are to your little pets.
Most, that I know anyway, are so tired of trying to make Christianity work, it is a joy for them to relax and be taught by the HolySpirit, the rest.
A hungry heart goes a long way in God. If you don't feel led to do such a thing it's ok your right where you need to be.
We encourage those that move on to make it possible for Christ to flow through their mind's. Once He overwhelms the mind then the body, and Christian living is spontaneous. We want to grow into spontaneous living.
We want to come to a place where we don't have to get up every morning and say, O God I want to be a good Christian today.
We just get up and say, Jesus, here we go.
