What’s the difference between love and like?
Most seem to “love” those they are closest too, but so do most animals.
Is it selfishness to love those most like us more then those somewhat distant?

Are you looking for love. Question mark. (Because the keyboard key don't work)

It's a tricky one. If you tell your neighbours wife you love her, her husband will probably conclude you've got designs with John Thomas but if you tell her you like her you've got more room to move.....because after all, anyone who takes out your garbage warrants a compliment!

Lol…. That’s very funny.
No, I’m looking at human instincts, not unlike animals we always protect those we are closest too.
Even some of the most honest would let people they know off the hook, just because they know them.
I’m thinking to like someone is to relate to them personally in some way.
To love must be a whole other level.
I know people whom I love but don’t like. Some of them are very close.

Do you think love is a real thing in nature?

That’s an awesome question, need some time, but my first response is no.
Do dogs love their pet humans? A dog's happiness is often tied to their humans' moods, and a dog may put its own life at risk to defend its people. That's pretty close to my working definition of "love" - that the beloved's happiness and well-being is essential to the lover's own.

But I have heard many unpleasant stories about what dogs do to their dead owners…

Yikes!

Love isn't primarily a feeling.
Fallen love is. They call it falling for a reason. Lasts seven years. That's when the cave kids can fend for themselves. Fallen nature calls!
Attachment is mistaken for love. The elephant behavior towards the bones of dead elephants is that. The attachment doesn't go away when it's object does.we got that too. .
The substance of human love is commitment to it's object. The feeling is planted in that soil. A covenant wink wink. Familial love grows from familial bonds. Unspoken commitment.

Thought I would try.
What’s the difference between love and like?
We are attracted to people we like. We enjoy their company. Love is commitment to someone we may or may not like.

Most seem to “love” those they are closest too, but so do most animals.
Animals naturally die. Their behavior is developed to stay alive and breed. They establish pairbonds. Some develope attachments but whatever they do it's to survive. Paul called his body a body of death. The law of death in his members is natural and good for the other animals. Not us.

Is it selfishness to love those most like us more then those somewhat distant?
Never selfish to be committed to the good of another.
