Daniel was part of a small, zealous group of youths from the Judean captivity.
Daniel was with God's help, able to decipher and interpret dreams.
When he interpreted the king's dream he was for all effects and purposes untouchable, which explains why he was not accused with his friends.
Daniel still had plenty of zeal when he chose to disobey the King's commandment concerning his worship to the Lord.
He was lucky that God had plans for him, believers don't earn the role of prophet except through God's sovereign choice.

Daniel's life would be transformed when he read Jeremiah's 70 year prophecy.
From that point onward he began to prophesy on short-term events and gradually moved on to long-term events.
The events covered in Daniel 11 are related to the struggles between the four kings that remained after the death of Alexander the Great, a matter of describing short term events that are later reflected in the end time.
The scope of Daniel's ministry consisted of focusing on times determined for the end to come, something uniquely his.
Revelation would reflect that focus that we first see in Daniel's ministry.
