This is not a Bible war. Just a clarification, God be willing.Matthew 18:19Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Some believers have misused verse 20 by seperating it from verse 19 to imply that God's Presence can be felt in the church or moving among them, but that is not what Jesus is saying at all.Jesus is speaking and whenever He speaks of the Holy Spirit, Jesus differentiates from speaking of Himself by testifying towards the Holy Spirit as "he" or "him". In these verses above, He is speaking of Himself as in "there am I in the midst of them".Jesus is referring to His future role as the only Mediator between God and man as verse 19 is in referencing to the action of praying. Also, the use of the term "midst" in according to the Greek, is meaning "inbetween" them in that verse.....not "among" them as we use the term today. Why is it necessary?Too many believers will testify of feeling God's Presence in the worship place. Why? Why would God need to be felt in the worship place if we are to test the spirits in this manner?1 John 4:1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.So out of love for those that err by their words as they testify of feeling God's Presence in a church or in Toronto Canada or Pensacola Florida, we need to be careful that we do not blur the line of discernment given for us to know the Holy Spirit apart from that which is in the world to be felt by us. Matthew 18:20 is not a validating verse to believe in that way as it is contrary to how we are to test the spirits.Alot of believers will be skeptical when someone comes in and claims to be Jesus Christ, but yet wayward believers will let their guard down when a spirit comes into the place of worship, thinking it to be the Holy Spirit for why else would it be any other. but yet, 1 John 4:1-7 exhorts us and warns us not to believe every spirit but test them and it is written as to how... greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.2 Corinthians 13:5Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? It is important to keep the faith in these perilous times we are living in because of this prophesied to happen and is happening.1 Timothy 4:1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 2 Corinthians 11:3But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.So wayward believes will add to the Gospel that would take your eyes off of Jesus to seek another spirit to receive and thus giving heed to seducing spirits (like the holy laughter movement of 1994 which caused many to chase after the "Spirit" and doctrines of devils which is to receive another spirit and keep on receiving.Galatians 1: 7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. But we have received the sanctification of the Spirit through the love of the truth. We have been bought with a price, filled with the Spirit, and sealed as his thus preserved and saved so that we can rest in Jesus when we came to Him.Matthew 9:17Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. We are not leaky vessel as we are witnesses of what Christ has done. The necessity of clarifying Matthew 18:20 with verse 19 is necessary so that we, as believers, may apply 1 John 4:1-7 in love towards others to correct them in according to our faith to remain resting in Jesus for He is with us always for we cannot get closer to God in the worship place than He is already and that is by Him being within us. That is the only way we can know the Holy Spirit is by Him being in us.John 14:16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 1 Corinthians 6:19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.And since the Holy Spirit in us,He is still pointing us to Jesus Christ, so let us be leary of any spirit or wayward believer in their pointing our focus and worship away from Jesus to something else in His name for the Holy Spirit in us would never do that to glorify Himself in "His" comings and goings. Other spirits would.John 15:26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.John 16:13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.John 14: 6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.Philippians 1:6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: ..... 9And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. 11Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.Philippians 2: 9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
