I had an experience on that day that likely saved me.
I was working in my office in midtown when the attacks happened. When we heard that the 2nd plane struck the towers, my boss looked at me and said “Go, do what you need.” She knew I was an EMT with a volunteer ambulance squad. As I was leaving the office, I was trying to make a decision whether to go directly downtown or head to our station. I couldn’t reach the station due to the phone system being overloaded.
As I was headed to the elevators, I had a vision that stopped me in my tracks and redirected me.. it was of my recent ex-girlfriend's body falling from the sky in front of me as the towers were falling. This was just a few minutes after the 2nd tower was struck and we had no indication that the towers were going to collapse. To make it more inpactful, I did not know she got a job at the WTC. It was jarring and, in hindsight, it was probably the only way the Holy Spirit would be able to redirect me from my all-too-human focus of heading to the towers to help. This vision not only protected me from the risk of death from the collapse, it also helped direct me to head to my ambulance station, where I staffed an ambulance in Queens that provided coverage to areas that were stripped of resources and responded to several emergencies that day.
