But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”

-1 samuel 8:19-20

Modern christians were seduced by a fairy tale, urban myth, that says governments love them, care about them and will fight their battles for them.

"But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.

Modern christians turn their backs on God to follow pop culture media trends and indulge in state worship.

"When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king (government) you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.”

-1 samuel 8:18

As it was since the day when God brought the israelites out of egypt, so have modern day christians worshipped false idols and made bad choices.

They are now praying to God to save them from their own bad decisions.

So they can return to making more bad choices, without having learned anything from their mistakes.

Why is it so difficult for people to learn the basics of life?

Any wonder that Jesus will reject the “many” but save the “few” who actually reject what satan’s world promotes.....love of money.....immorality....supporting bloodshed in purely politically motivated wars.....and a counterfeit form of Christianity that requires little of them. (Matthew 7:13-14; 21-23)

We are in a war against what Paul reveals are forces that are more powerful than we are....but not more powerful than God is....

Ephesians 6:11-13.....
“Put on the complete suit of armor from God so that you may be able to stand firm against the crafty acts of the Devil; 12 because we have a struggle, not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places. 13 For this reason take up the complete suit of armor from God, so that you may be able to resist in the wicked day and, after you have accomplished everything, to stand firm.”

Unless you have the complete suit of spiritual armour firmly in place, satan will find a chink and dismantle the whole suit. Satan offers the easy way and most people will take it. The cramped and narrow road to life is one not many are prepared to walk. The easy road leads to destruction.
