Life.Church is one of America's biggest churches, probably with over 100,000 people each Sunday between about thirty locations. The single location I visited was big enough itself to be called a megachurch.

There's no Sunday School. There's just the service and child care in the building. The building itself has no religious art or icons. The helpful staff was dressed in jeans, with custom t-shirts. They served tea and coffee, and some snack food.

As I walked through a door labeled "auditorium", I picked up ear plugs from a bucket. The service started with a rock band on stage, with a female lead singer, bathed in swirling spotlights. The first song was a secular 1960s rock classic. That was followed by simplistic praise-and-worship songs set to rock music. I don't think anyone sang along, but if they did, they were drowned out by the loud music. The average age of the people there looked to be in the 20s.

After about 25 minutes of a rock concert, a video started of a man, Craig Groeschel, who delivered a self-help speech with Christianity sprinkled on top. Groeschel dressed very casually, showing off his muscles, and was very animated as he spoke. Verse quotes were sometimes displayed at the bottom of the video, free from chapter and verse information.

They passed the offering bucket. We were told if we needed money, we could reach into the offering bucket and take money, but when it went by me, it was empty. They started with a stack of small buckets so tall that they would have had one for each row.

I don't remember more than one or two short prayers during the event.

This is what happens when you confuse a lifestyle with spiritual life. Cults do this. But cultic behaviour like this has become the norm.

Give the people what they want.

Build it and the people will come.

Build it bigger and more people will come.

These are the reasonings behind it.

I am sadly chuckling. The words of both posts speak volumes.

Yet, church attendance has been declining.

Except in the circus type churches. The same is happening in ma and pa busineses...Look at Amazon and other large stores.

People are killing their own freedom for the convenience of it.

Let this post be a warning to all, that sound Bible-believing and Gospel-preaching churches are becoming rare entities. Christians today need discernment as never before

Yes agree...they claim the name of Christ but they lack the Spirit of Christ. Empty vessels....

Yes, they have a "form of religion but deny the power thereof"!!! And, indeed @Enoch111 , discernment is key, especially in this age.

I'm surprised at how many people here have attended that church. I would never have guessed.

Considering that these "circus type churches" have become a very big player in churches today, and given that overall church attendance is declining, these circus churches are either ineffectual or part of the problem. I'd say part of the problem, because they corrupt people's expectations from a church. And, entertaining people as consumers doesn't make those people disciples.

I think that the expectation of success...or at least the appearance of success among people far outweighs the effort to be faithful to God's expectations about what is HIS church.

Do not deafness and blindness play a part? How do the deaf hear? How do the blind receive vision?

"He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?" John 9:25-27

    BABYLON

    Ahhhh Babylon!
that gratifying city of the senses
    leaving the soul bereft.

    Company men ply her marketplaces,
    anonymous, without responsibility
the justified cover for vice and power.

    On the run
relentlessly gouging for approval and money
the hand played for millennia, covert, overt.

    It’s pulsing throng marching steadily
    toasting its successes
    unperturbed by consequences.

Yes. Paul speaks of a veil over the eyes of those who have not yet understood the word...

The circumcision of the heart fixes that.

    (4) And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
    (5) For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

You know it's a church because of the word church. And, they serve Starbucks coffee, the brand famous for its Christian values... or not.

You know it's a church, because you saw the word "church" before entering the "auditorium". Also, you know it's a church because you can see from the caption they're rocking out to a Jesus-is-my-boyfriend song.

Just like Walmart...uniformed greeters. And the cashiers too! Don't go into the world...bring the world into the church. Hey, they won't even know it's church. Seeker friendly. God friendly? I think He'd rather go to the real deal...Walmart. More choices.

Kinda makes you reminisce about the early church. Everyone has a song.... a tongue, a prophecy, a revelation. (if you read between the lines you can see rock concert and circus in there too!)
