We don't really celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia either, we may have "what do you have to thank God for" themed Church service, but that is about as much as we do in Australia.

Black Friday has been adopted in Australia, a day of massive sales.

Thanksgiving is about the Pilgrims in America, that's why we don't celebrate it @Josho

More like the Puritans who arrived in New England and weren't use to the harsh winters here in America, many perished as they weren't use to the extreme cold temperatures and Blizzards, and weren't prepared for those conditions, they didn't have enough food or clothing for that kind of extreme weather conditions, the Indians were kind enough to help them through until they were able to plant their own crops and the Indians showed them how to plant foreign foods such as corn and pumpkin and tomatoes, that weren't available back in Europe.

So after their first successful crops, they had a feast a celebration and gave thanks to God, and invited the Indians that helped them get through that first Winter, to partake in their feast and it continued from that time on, and later on President Lincoln made it a National Holiday.

    Hi, Angelina.

In a word, we pretty much eat ourselves silly and then fall asleep watching football games or movies (turkey is the main dish, and it has a lot of tryptophan). There's often some outdoor fun beforehand, like parades or backyard games and stuff, but everything is centered around the meal. The standard dishes nearly always include turkey, ham, stuffing, yams, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie, but from there people add all sorts of things, depending on the region. My family always also includes broccoli and cheese, rice dressing, green bean casserole, cabbage, pecan pie, lemon bars, and brownies, and someone always includes a few more optional things.

It's the time of year when everybody gains weight in this country, and then worries about how they're going to lose it all back later.

So back in 1621, the Pilgrims were being oppressed by a king in England that wanted them to worship God in the way he wanted them to, so the pilgrims/puritans chose to leave. This is where my username came from, because it inspires me. <3 The pilgrims went on this ship called the Mayflower to get to the "New World" otherwise known today as America. It was a perilous journey and a lot of lives were lost, but the puritans believed that worshipping God freely was worth the journey. When they got to Plymouth, they had very little and they knew the Natives were there around, but didn't know they were friend or foe. The first winter was very hard for them and more lives were lost. The beautiful thing was their faith in all of this. I can't imagine how this brought them closer to God.

So then in Spring, this Native came into the village who was taught English from travelers (the Spanish had come first). I believe one of the names was Squanto, but there was another. They taught them how to grow their own food and fish. It became a time of plenty.

So then the pilgrims and Natives got together and had what we know as the first Thanksgiving. It was a time to thank God for everything He brought them through and they made a treaty of peace that lasted for around 300 years!!!!

So every year this time became a tradition and Thanksgiving eventually became a national holiday to spend with family and friends and thank God for everything that He has given us and done for us. :)

Well now. LOL Thanksgiving is what you make it. :)

We.are having hamburgers and hotdogs this Thanksgiving, angel eggs (my deviled eggs), baked macaroni, green beans, and homemade brownies.and ice cream. I'm the only one who really likes turkey, so we decided to make something different.

But y'all, have a very Happy Thanksgiving. I am so thankful for the good things from CB and for all that God has been doing/has done in my life.
