His death was your death and that death is always working in you. What happens in death?..separation! Why separation - we are separated by the death of the old man to have a new identity -- even Jesus Christ!

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. - Romans 7:4.

Why is it people cannot grab ahold of the gospel when it is presented to them? They can grab bits and pieces but never one and done. Many reasons - but the main reason is; it is a separation from who you are by nature (sin nature-spirit that trained the old mind identity) -- to who you are now as a born again believer..your new identity in Christ is who you are now. That will be hard for a believer to accept because of the 'old man' identity that is so ingrained in humanity it took the death of another to bring separation to that old man..sin nature. Your identity changed at the cross..the moment you accepted Jesus Christ! Not in your mind only in spirit and you must know your new identity so a change in mind change must come. You we're changed or should say.. exchanged ..that is the proper word for it; but the mind change from the old man to new man cannot be made without proper training of the mind..by the gospel and the teaching of the HolySpirit. We will need to hear the gospel time and time again in order to properly accept my new identity -- (the transformation in mind..by the renewing of the mind).

You do not hear it one time and done..one and done so to speak!. No sir you must hear this message time and time again before you will make the mind change. And then it will take the HolySpirit to teach you and show you the new identity.. which is Christ!

That is one reason you do not try to imitate Jesus of Nazareth..because that is not who you are..you are you by creation - with Christ in you. Can you see that..look at it clearly because that is your new identity. That means nothing you DO can complete you but the Christ in you is your completion..and the renewing of the mind!

Mind renewal; you cannot say enough about it.

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: - Colossians 2:10.

11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you. - 2 Corinthians 4:11-12.

16 to the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. - 2 Corinthians 2:16-17.

@soul man I read a piece by J I Packer called The Death of Death in the Death of Christ (orig. on John Owen's book).
