What is it about chapter 3 of Philippians that makes it one of the most needed books and chapter to understand? It has deep psychological aspects to it. Paul, as we have talked about before I believe Paul is the greatest psychologist that ever lived. I make that statement based on Paul being the first to tell us what makes a human being tick. Now that is a crude explanation of Paul's understanding but up until Paul we have no one that can do that (except Jesus) except Paul. That is why he is so important in the grand scheme of things for the understanding of the born again saints. Mind renewal is basically impossible without understanding Paul defining the human being as tripartite.

A human being that sins is easy to define, why or how that sin came about is what Paul defines. When you look at sin you know it is sin but they did not know why they sinned. The law was given so they would know sin, sin was disobedience to the law. Humans didn't even know they were sinning until the law came into effect to expose their sin. They did not know that they had a sin nature, all they knew was they sinned and that sin was disobedience to the law and ulitmate trouble with God.

Paul defines the sin nature perfectly in Romans 7 when he described it's effects on human beings. But what he also does is tell the born again believer that sin nature has been distroyed, killed out by the cross of Calvary. Allowing now for a new birth "Christ in you the hope of glory." With the new birth comes the God nature, the devine God nature that is in Christ. Paul tell's us there is no miracle for the mind, that miracle took place in spirit only so mind must be renewed to the new nature. The new nature is not like the old sin nature that must be put under subjection, the new nature and the mind needs to be compatible with each other to be able to live according to the way it is designed to live. The mind cannot live by the old knowledge of good and evil, it must be renewed to the new knowledge of Christ in you.

There is two knowledges that exist, one is the knowledge of good and evil, and the other knowledge is "the knowledge of Christ." The knowledge of Christ is not just knowing about him, it is his knowledge (the mind of Christ). You are operating your life from one or the other.

In religion today we have come full circle if you will, not knowing much about what makes the human being tick. The world also, they will never define a human being nor do they want to, especially in the medical field it is bad for business. Until you can define a human being the only help they will ever get is the ministry of helps, there is no spiritual understanding. Basically you can tell them what their problem is but you have no solution, not until Paul is followed into what he knew as absolute truth revealed by Jesus Christ himself. Paul did not get his understanding from a book or school or some other means, it came from the indwelling Christ revealing to Paul the message for the born again.
