Here's a poem I'd like to contribute. I wrote it about ten or twenty years ago in thanksgiving for God's grace.

If That Isn’t Love By Dave L

as He died impaled on cross
my name did God emboss
upon his brow of thorns
despite my hateful scorns

my debt forever replete
God placed on Him complete
His wrath diverted from me
without mercy on He

if that isn’t love
sent down from above
would you then tell me why
for my sins He would die?

And resurrection morning
no more sin adorning
Christ arose and in grace
left buried my disgrace

that Heavenly sent reprieve
for all who can believe
upon that crimson fount
that flowed from Calvary’s mount

if that isn’t love
sent down from above
would you then tell me why
for my sins He would die?

It’s a love that never fails
resounding from those nails
the martyr’s eulogy
and our Gethsemane

for each and every face
salvaged by His grace
from the fallen race
to His warm embrace

if that isn’t love
sent down from above
would you then tell me why
for my sins He would die?

Here's one for the kiddies. But it holds true for older folks too.

Pickles By Dave L

I’m mainly just a cucumber
but it occurred to me
if I were a pickle
the world would relish me

I’d have a lot more money
by soaking in that brine
than I’d ever hope to have
hanging on this vine

but if I were a pickle
would I still be me?
even with some sugar
I doubt if that would be

so I’m mainly just a cucumber
a hanging on this vine
at least I know I’m still alive
and God sure treats me fine

I’m mainly just a cucumber
so if you take a slice
try to add a little salt
but easy if you dice!

Here’s an old set of country style lyrics I wrote about Morris the Cat. We do the same as he when we think negatively under our breath of others. So the idea behind the song was to begin rejecting hateful thoughts we hold under our breath about others. That is, we should be more Christ like in our thinking than Morris like.

Morris the Cat by Dave L

Do you remember Morris?
So finicky and cool?
he relished every picky thought
and purrrrrred with ridicule

but he was just a sour puss
with an attitude
you know that’s not the loving way
to hatred I allude

God is love and happiness
and all that’s really good
hatred only ever sees
how bad the neighborhood

Love will see the blessedness
and cherish all that's true
the only measure of a life
the only real virtue

God is Love and yes it’s true
He will see you through
Each time you hold a loving thought
in what you say or do

So don’t be a Morris
I say with certitude
dwell upon each loving thought
and purrrrrrrr with gratitude

Here’s another song I wrote on the way back from Colorado in the 1990s. I noticed on the back of a motor home a sign that asked “where will you spend eternity; Smoking or Smoke Free?” So this song came about in the months that followed…

Welcome to Eternity By Dave L

It's the day you stand at Heaven's door,
so it goes this metaphor
can your name be found? were you written down?
or to the Lake of Fire are you bound?

Welcome to eternity says the maître d'
do you prefer smoking? or smoke free?
Welcome to eternity what's it gonna be?
did you trust in Jesus? go smoke free?

There are more who trust in works today
They think that Heaven is their pay
all that they done, all that they shun
but filthy rags is all they ever spun

Welcome to eternity says the maître d'
do you prefer smoking? or smoke free?
Welcome to eternity what's it gonna be?
did you trust in Jesus? go smoke free?

There are some who go a different way
"saved by grace", so they say
they stand at the fount that paid the full amount
when Jesus died upon that blood stained mount

Welcome to eternity, says the maître d'
do you prefer smoking? or smoke free?
Welcome to eternity, what's it gonna be?
did you trust in Jesus? go smoke free?

This was always my favorite.

Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy
O divine master grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it's in dying that we are born to eternal life
Amen

Contingent Grace (To the tune of Amazing Grace).

contingent grace how sweet the sound
that saves by works foreseen
I once was lost but came around
was blind but chose to see

'twas grace that looked ahead in time
and saw that I would be
never bound by sin and such
but with a will that's free

My Lord Of The Dance *

Through the fast swirling crowd
I catch sight of his face,
And I’m awed by his power
And his masculine grace.
See, he approaches
With love in his glance;
Stretches out his strong arms
And invites me to dance.
Trembling, I rise,
Reaching out for his hand,
And we take to the floor
In a slow saraband.

He leads and I follow
As we move to the beat
In stately progression
With light dancing feet.
The tempo increases,
My spirits are high,
As with joyous abandon
We twirl and we fly,
Moving together
We cover the floor;
Hearts and bodies attuned.
The pace changes once more.

His arms now enfold me
As we twirl in a waltz.
He’s captivated my heart,
How can I be false?
To him, my first love
I will always be true,
Each morning with him
I will find something new.
The Lord Of The Dance
Is my lover and friend
And together we’ll dance
Till eternity’s end.

Thanks DaveL. This poem was inspired by a passage in the book ‘Captivating’ by John and Stasi Eldridge, and started me off on a new learning curve. After writing this poem I received three other dance related items.

Lots of depth in that theme. It parallels the bride of Christ so well.

No farouk it's over until the autumn.
I expect you look forward to it; interesting comment recently about them being so united and graceful; a lesson for unity before the Lord, you were saying.

So are they any particular people who stand out in your view, in the series?

We never know who the celebs will be until just before the new series starts.

I see; so do they all seem to be fairly fit and able to do what it required?

I guess it's one thing to be a celebrity; quite another to be fit and able still to do it all gracefully.

No farouk it seems to be easier for some than others but they are all beginners.
