Okay, so the other tattoo poll expired with results that may suggest some thought-provoking conclusions.

There do seem to be a lot of varying thoughts about tattoos, whether faith based or not; some ppl like them for religious/spiritual reasons; others dislike them, for religious/spiritual reasons. Some ppl regret all tattoos; some ppl regret their own tattoos; others have no regrets about their own tattoos whatsoever.

I thought it might be interesting/significant to try to put together a poll with a fairly comprehensive set of options about tattoo regret — whether the regret might exist or whether it doesn't exist at all. (Thoughts?)

@Heart2Soul Thanks for your vote and 'like'. As a nurse - and as per the quote from the nurse in the OP - I guess you would fit in pretty well in such a hospital in which the profession is so comfortable with its ink, right?

I would be asking what and why they have this or that tattoo....this is why I think tattoos can be an opportunity for ministry.....it opens up a door to talk about Jesus.

Yes, as grinnurse says, having it done means it's such a great conversation-starter:
Since having it done is proven to work so well, when Christians have the courage to use the parlor for something faith based, then they are likely among those who have the least reason to regret it, right?

Tattoos... It is not who you are, but who you were at the moment you got one. I am not saying they are sinful, but what I am saying is that people change through the decades. What may have been in here in the 2010's may be out in the the 2020's. What you may have liked in the 2010's you may not like in the the 2020's. I can change my hair style and if I do not like it the hair grows back. But with tattoos the image is part of you and very hard to remove.

@rockytopva This is why it's important when choosing a faith based tattoo that will possibly be instrumental in many conversations, to choose carefully and give it plenty of thought before going for the parlor appointment, right?

Thanks for your comment! So did you vote in the poll?

Poll... If I had an option I would go for, "No Tattoos of my own and would caution others on getting them but not criticize those who did."

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? - 1 John 5:4-5

I would not want to destroy anyone's faith and would be very careful of my language here.

@rockytopva Thanks for the thoughtful comment. For a lot of tattooed Christians, it's probably not just a matter of going to the parlor because it makes them feel good, it's probably also - as far as faith based designs are concerned - having the courage and motivation to have it done because of the convictions that the design expresses: expressed convictions that would ideally be least regretted among designs.

They are in any case very effective conversation-starters, aren't they?

Great text there from 1 John; I do love that Epistle.

I have one tattoo and have regretted it throughout the years...you are correct, it is not who you are, but WERE you were (spiritually speaking) when getting the tattoo. I got it at the age of 16, I am very soon going to turn 62 and, have regretted getting it many times. It is old, faded and on my forearm!!! I got it to be "cool"...Hahaha! silly girl was I. Funny thing though, it is a dove with a heart in it's mouth, although nobody can even tell what it is at this point. Our skin becomes thinner when we age, Tattoos fade, just like anything else the world is so into, our skin starts to become looser and tattoos can look pretty bad after so many decades. I hold not a thing against anyone who has a tattoo as, just about everyone I know has at least one! Yes, could be an opener to witness but then, we have a better opener of even a better witness...the Holy Spirit :)

    @Nancy Thanks for your comment!

I agree with what you say about the Holy Spirit, indeed.

"...just about everyone I know has at least one!" Yes, when people want to say something about themselves in a reasonably deliberate and formal way, today the parlor is where people so often go to express themselves; while decades back it might have taken a bit more bravery, today ppl seem to be able to do it confidently and naturally & seemingly unregretted (not least, women; or, rather, should I say, especially women, who pursue it openly and wholesomely).

Thanks for voting in the poll also!

PS: @Nancy Your comment is really very similar to J.B.'s, above, when she says:

Seems like so widely now it's gone far beyond the stage of ppl saying or thinking, 'Oh, look, she has a tattoo...'

Now so widely for so many it's seemingly established as something - unremarkable and unregretted - that they expect to do and almost expect others to do.

(This state of affairs now also for a lot of Christians seems to open the doors for faith based tattoos - as witness tools and personal reminders - to become something viable to use the parlor for.)

@Waiting on him As regards the subject of this new poll, you recently talked about your daughter who wanted to become a tattoo artist: I'm sure she - for one - doesn't regret her ink at all, right?

Not at all, she’d most likely cover her whole body if she could afford it.

(Did you vote in the poll, BTW?)

Yes, it does cost a bit; though those who do it regularly seem to advocate it as a rewarding and unregretted experience, anyway. Seems that those who do aspire to having ink on both arms and legs will also eventually aspire to some piercings; not automatically so, but not unusually.

@Waiting on him ...and particularly if she spiritually prioritized generally, would you even somehow regret it if she did indeed have inking done as extensively as you said she aspires to?

I’d rather that she had spiritual based tats, I believe that’s what your asking. But either way, we love the girl.
