We have all heard this verse and have applied it to mean pray for earthy Jerusalem to have peace..... But the Lord has shown me the spiritual understanding. If you are truly walking in Christ then you will dwell in the Peace of heavenly Jerusalem NOW for the kingdom of heaven is Within YOU.
So, we are to pray that the peace will come into our life, that we will be found worthy to rest in the Lord NOW as He warned us to do. For those who are still led of their flesh or rely on man's hand to save them, provide for them or protect them do not get to taste the peace that only the Lord can give.

So we are to pray for the Peace of Jerusalem to come to us that comes to us from dwelling in the house of the LORD.
We know that it can not mean pray for earthly Jerusalem's peace for we understand that flesh and blood can not inherit the kingdom of God nor find peace because our flesh sins and keeps us in fear, torment until we can overcome so.. you must be born again. Secondly, God warns the false shepherds who just patch up the walls of earthy Jerusalem saying Peace Peace for them saying God is going to save you... so that they never come to salvation in Christ.
Ps 122
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.
2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD.
5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
8 For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.
9 Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.
KJV

Jerusalem is mainly symbolic of true Christians according to Jesus' term.
Those who live in darkness, live down in the dust of the earth fighting to stay alive, wounded, lying in their blood(acts of the carnal nature) in a condition we call hell for they are dead to God. Those who are gradually raised up from the dead as they feed upon the Bread of life/Christ in honor, integrity, good character by the Word of life unto Life are given mansions/ higher positions/heavenly body's in the True body of Christ, meaning positions of authority under God in perfect peace, health and prosperity, protection, they are the son's of God which have been MADE into the image of Christ who walk by faith in what is not yet seen, yet taking God's promises as truth to step out on the water with the Word daily for them, before it manifests in the natural for they are from the far country who's maker is God and all of our provisions come from abiding in the Word to abide in heaven.

Heb 11:8-10
8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
KJV
Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
KJV

Pray that you are found worthy to enter into the Upper Room into the Peace of Jerusalem to escape all that is coming upon those who dwell in the dust of the earth.

Mark 1:14-15
14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
KJV
Matt 10:7-10
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
KJV
