the trumpet of the day
COME OUT OF HER, MY PEOPLE, THAT YE BE NOT PARTAKERS OF HER SINS, AND THAT YE RECEIVE NOT OF HER PLAGUES

O that I would rend my heart now, that you would rend the heavens, O Lord
how has your salvation been clean forgotten, O Lord, and your mercies we failed
in ignorance have you led us, and been a counsel of peace when there be none
we have been like unto roaring bears and moaning doves, sore
lamentation has filled our houses and loathsome disease our cities
your eye had not pitied nor did the Lord look over from his habitation
fear has filled our hearts and utter despair has been our dwellings
how has our righteousness blinded our eyes and we behold evil every day

cursed be me, woe be me for my righteousness sake
how have I defiled the sanctuary of my Lord with my stout words
how have I made the everlasting promise cease by my lofty wisdom
woe to me, for I called my Maker a sleeper, and not looked upon his mercies
paths have been to me as snares, and my day, arrows without number
how are the mercies clean dried up from before my face, O Lord
I behold evil continually as it is been the only face of the Lord my God
rend my heart, O Lord, that I may behold your face

hide not, hide not from your servant O Lord my God
wretched is the man and all thoughts evil, yea, our breath has been evil against you
we lay low as couching lions, like bears bereft of whelps have we been
our ways have been to thieve, devour and murder
yet in the hardness of our hearts, have we not seen the works of your hands
our counsel is in our own righteousness, and looked not upon our Maker for good
how we devoured houses without end, and cities have we famished with our counsel
yet we called ourselves forever after your mercies, but never did once beheld you, O Lord

how are our ways made wilderness and our souls caught in the flagons of our wine
shame has filled our mornings after the evenings full of sorrows
our ways are all evil, contempt are our thoughts, confound is our spirit
we have made us pits in ignorance, we even did mark ourselves with our arrows
in all our workings never once did we consider, or our eyes beheld our Maker
evil has been the order of our days and transgressions fill our beds in the night
rend O Lord, devour the heaven that we may devour our hearts and repent
for your cause is far from us and your righteousness hid

how has the man conspired against you O Lord, how have we conspired evil
we have been like unto worm upon earth, even as a flea
how have we set up ourselves in righteousness that your glory be forgotten
each one of us have set up our own image for idol, and placed it deep within ourselves
and cast after our own glory amidst men, in your Holy name
we did mock you, O Lord, and shaken our heads at your wisdom
our ways have we found perfect and your wisdom foolish
neither did we wait upon you in the day of distress, but found deliverance in evil
O man that you were never born, for evil upon evil, evil upon evil has God beheld
our eyes have seen the evil of our doings, O Lord, who shall wash these away
our hands have wrought works against the Most high, who shall cleanse them
O Lord that you would rend the heavens that I would rend my heart

thieves we are, and murder is the law of our hearts
deceit to us is as your word, and our inequities flood our courts as jezebel
O Lord, visit upon our heads for the evil thereof, like unto Israel
burn our cities and fill our houses with desolations
then would the man's righteousness cease and your face be shown
do unto us like the judgments upon Israel
pour upon your desolations twice the gamut of sodom
the fierceness of your wrath as you destroyed gomorrah suddenly
which delighted not in your ways but prided in their idols
behold upon us that we are no better than they as in the day of your wrath
we are sinners, O Lord, and have consumed your only begotten for nought

was not salvation established ? was not peace set upon high ?
we have eyes but we see not, ears but closed, hearts have we, but do not understand
our blindness is more in the day of your visitation than that of your Holy land, O God
dust we are and ashes we pour upon our heads, for the grievance of our doings
hearken unto your servant, O Lord, hide not your face in the day of your anger
we travail and travail but we bring forth wind for birth, and strifes for comfort
our sittings and gatherings are vanities told twice before your eyes
evil is beset in our ways and we walk like wayfarers into pits
lamentations we eat with reverence, as if it be the only meat of our tables
spread our dung, O Lord, even the dung of our solemn lives, on our faces
that we may know the shame thereof, and our hands be free of the great transgression

day unto day, night unto night, we have found darkness when we looked for light
for great is the evil of this generation upon our heads
we grope like the blind men in night, blackness has covered us in this day
we look for hope but sorrow has filled our ways
vexation had been our report and tears our beds
delight is lost, joy unknown and our desolations are laid bare for all to see
we are all dead men, none breathing, none knowing your knowledge
pride and vanities have filled our lives and complaints have been the order thereof
yet we kept our mouth shut as a horse bridled for the way thereof
if not for your afflictions, where would this your man be
would he ever be found in the ways of your creation, or be the foundation thereof ?

woe unto us, O Lord, woe unto the habitation of our dwellings
for we have forsaken your ways and your righteousness, O that our woes would end
we have sold you, O God, for a pretence, even to all we met have we sold your name
we have preached, prophesied in your name for our own glories
we have built ourselves, our lives upon your blood, and shamed not a mite
and had a vail upon our eyes, that we set not our eyes to behold your Holiness
we have set ourselves precious upon our families, defiling your name for our causes
they regard us as men of God, yet have we sold you to them in their desires
we dealt treacherous with God and with them, and not showed your rod nor your staff
we have been as the blind, we led them in blindness, and served for our praises
we have hidden your ways from their eyes for a copper and a penny
yet never even bought you a sweet cane with our monies

visit us, visit us, O Lord and bring upon us the evil of our doings
for long have you held your peace, and we have glorified ourselves
and none had been a mountain or a hill, wherein we have not spread our abominations
the blood of our hands cries out of the land, like cain we have all backslided
the covetousness of our heart had lain deceits in our souls, and we called ourselves righteous
what is man, O Lord, that you should be still mindful of us
that you should still visit, and behold our faces as in the day of your visitation
like dung our bodies be spread, like shame our honour be turned
yet you behold man, your man, O Lord, that you may bear our iniquities
and the quietness of his soul has been your dwelling since the foundation

your eyes behold men, O Lord, your eyelids try men
O that one be found righteous that you may reveal the sins of this generation
for our inequities are we all sold, and our covenant with our Maker made we nought
we have been a cause of your displeasure, and our ways your sorrows
pity, O Lord, pity your own man, and cast not off your footstool in anger
remember O Lord, for your own sake the covenant of Abraham
and cast not off your inheritance in anger
let not the beauty of your works perish, nor cause our lips to cease praising you
we are yours, O Lord, and we are the creation of your hands
you have called us by your name, O Lord, and we are your nation
O God of Jacob, awake, awake as in the day of battle
and lead the redeemed like in the days of old when your ransomed passed the sea
and establish salvation unto the ends of the earth, and your throne forever, Amen

BECAUSE THOU HAST KEPT THE WORD OF MY PATIENCE, I ALSO WILL KEEP THEE FROM THE HOUR OF TEMPTATION, WHICH SHALL COME UPON ALL THE WORLD, TO TRY THEM THAT DWELL UPON THE EARTH
BEHOLD, I COME QUICKLY: HOLD THAT FAST WHICH THOU HAST, THAT NO MAN TAKE THY CROWN

HE WHICH TESTIFIETH THESE THINGS SAITH, SURELY I COME QUICKLY. AMEN. EVEN SO, COME, LORD JESUS
