The apostle Paul was the greatest psychologist that ever lived. In psychology when learning the trade, what they try to teach you is; what makes a human being tick. What makes me do what I do - why am I living the way I live - what causes that. That is psychology 101 trying to get to the root.
Of course most of modern psychology cannot do that because they do not understand the principles of God - which are; humanity has a sin nature. Humanity has a cross provided and they can receive a new nature. Which in turn will brings a different kind of thinking in time. That in a nutshell is the Hope for the mind and all of humanity. When he died for all he died for all of the human race. The cross is so deep it even takes on those that died before the cross - but that's a different message.
What we deal with as a christian is the leftovers of the old man syndrome. Unrenewed mind is that syndrome that effects you. Anything you go through at this moment will be brought on by the unrenewed mind - doesn't matter what it is it is coming from the Adamic stand point of the old Knowledge - nolonger an old man just a Knowledge. You see old man was spirit and that spirit was replaced at the new birth with a spirit. Learning what has happened in spirit is what renewal is all about.
Seems kind of simple right - well you better hold on to your hat because it just doesn't jump up and decide to leave it can't because alot is involved and you live by mind so it must be renewed. To the new self - which is not a selfish self but a new Christ' self that lives according to your creation only in renewal or being renewed. What is it about 'being renewed' mean to us? We hear by the Spirit what it is God is doing and we stop fighting the Spirit resisting the Spirit, but we yield to The Spirit because I hear that is what I'm supposed to do for renewal. Your mind is an opponent to the teaching of the Holyspirit and cannot be considered as a way. There is only one way and it is not our way it is 'the way - the truth - and the life - that lighteth every man (human being), only believe.
