Remember that we were never promised an easy life, but a happy ending. So:

"In every way we’re troubled but not crushed, frustrated but not in despair, persecuted but not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed." (2 Cor. 4:8+9)

Many people say that praising God in adverse circumstances is not "realistic". But is moping, complaining, grumbling, and being oppressed with an impending sense of doom and gloom honestly more "real" than having hope – when the truly good and living God is always active in our world and on our side?

How has despair, worry and anxiety been working for us anyway? "Keeping it real", from the angle of some -- will only keep us in defeat!

When you magnify God deliberately enough to be able to see and then praise Him in the most adverse conditions...a dunamis power of God can be released to burst into circumstances and even liberate the 'prisoners' around you.

"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were unfastened" (Acts 16:25-26).

What should Christians do in adverse circumstances?

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

A spiritually clean conscience is high and lifted up in Christ Jesus.

We can bring glory to Jesus and rejoice in all things, by continuing the fight of faith to keep our hearts pure and our consciences clean in Christ.

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.

We keep ourselves by enduring temptation, resisting the devil, and overcoming evil. This is the spiritual warfare within, that we have His divine power to continue casting down any tempting thoughts of unrighteousness, that do not glorify Jesus in the flesh.

We grow strong in our spiritual warfare by doing so daily, and no more just taking the thoughts of the devil to heart as normal Christian living.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

There is no praise nor rejoicing in falling to temptation at the feet of the devil, and sinning with him.

For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

It's not enough to "praise" God to move the arm of the Lord in our behalf if all we do is that. Jesus said many draw nigh unto Him with their lips and honor Him with their mouths but their hearts are nowhere near His righteous right hand. They engage in "vain worship" by teaching false commandments of men in place of the commandments of God and complain about how impossible and grievous they are when the Bible says they are the exact opposite of that.

Lean on Him:

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones." Prov 3:5-8

What should Christians do in adverse circumstances?
"Pray without ceasing!" We are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. We have direct access to God and so we are to be in constant communcation with Him, not leaving Him out of any part, discision, circumstance, trial or tribulation in our lives.
