No identity is better than any identity

The Tao, Buddhism, Christianity, etc. all have this idea of self denial/self sacrifice, non-self,an emptying of self, etc. On the other end of the spectrum there's psychology, and psychiatry which claim that a well developed sense of self is healthy, normal, and to be nurtured. However, as soon as any additional personalities emerge this becomes unhealthy, and a sign of mental illness.

Given that the first personality is no more valid or real than any subsequent ones formed, there is no good reason for Psychology or Psychiatry departments to classify the first one as healthy, or even beneficial.

We live in the age of the "selfie"; an age of rampant ubiquitous naracissism where anything and everything that can be stated will be viewed as offensive threats to disturb and profane the perfectly still self absorbed waters of our most sacred selves. It is a culture that seeks a perfect narcissism amid turbulent and hopelessly confused identities which can never find peace in what is nothing but a silly idea to begin with.

This is no accident. It's an extremely effective way to compel the mind to be willingly governed. As easy as this is to observe, it is impossible for this to happen if these identities are discarded, or not allowed to form to begin with. When no sense of self is allowed to emerge, the body has nothing to identify with, and nothing could be better.

Psychologists are just people with an outgoing personality who have devoted their lives to helping others.

Their methods are no doubt flawed, and their knowledge woefully incomplete.

However they may have some insights that I can agree with as a Christian. Once I met one in the airport and he started chatting. He gave a word of advise "try to do something helpful for someone else every day."

Another I seen on YouTube came to the realization that fragments of personalities are fully functional persons. This is agreeable, as it explains how a spirit can be of a particular trait yet have everything necessary to function.

Normally if you take a machine apart it will not function, not the case with humans.

Sort of accurate, but beside the point that these are two opposing positions. One stresses the absolute necessity of self denial while the other fosters its development.

What has this all have to do with the title of the thread?

    I was expecting a knowledge-from-God-trumps-knowledge-from-men discussion.

When I see these threads, I'm always reminded of Romans 1:20

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

God says that the world itself evinces His presence and power. Science deals with other things and can't consider God. But scientists can, and the natural creation enriches our faith.

And yes, psychologists have made considerable progress in both practical and theoretical understanding of human behavior. That much of it has verified things my Mom used to tell me, only increases my confidence that they have a lot of things right.
