You have heard it said, we are to hate the sin, but we are to love the sinner. And yes, Jesus did tell us to love our neighbor and to love our enemies.

But what I am seeing today is that those who call themselves Christians are embracing the sinner, having fellowship with the sinner, and not even rebuking the sinner of their sins.

They have been deceived into thinking that rebuking and reproving the sinner is “hate speech” and so they keep silent. This of course is the opposite message that God’s words tell us to do.

We are told to love our neighbor, but if he sins, then we are commanded to rebuke him and warn him of the dangers of sin.

It is written in Leviticus 19:17 17 “Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.”

I like to use the blind man analogy, that if you saw a blind man fixing to walk off the edge of a cliff and plummet to his death, would you hold your tongue and watch him fall to a certain death?

Many would say of course not! So in the same way if you see those around you partaking in sinful behavior, why would you not warn them? Because the wages of sin will also lead to a certain death.

So, if you truly loved your neighbor, and if you truly loved your enemy, then why would you not warn them that their sins will lead to a certain death and destruction?

If you truly loved them then you would tell them that the cure for their sinful condition is found in having faith in Jesus Christ. The gospel message includes a call for sinners to repent of their sins, and seek the Lord and His righteousness.

But this is not what we are seeing in many denominations today. They are telling the sinner they are fine just the way they are, and that God loves them just the way they are.

Not only that, but they are also having fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. We are warned in scripture many times not to have fellowship with sinners, but these warnings are being ignored.

Again, warning sinners of the dangers of sinful behavior is not “hate speech”; that is the tactic of the enemy, and it is the opposite of what God commands us to do.

Warning a sinner is the opposite of hate speech because if you truly love the sinner and love your enemy, then you will warn them of the dangers of sin, which is death.

It is written Proverbs 27:5
Open rebuke is better than secret love.” It is also written that love does not rejoice in sin.

One of the signs of a true born again Christian is that they, by the Holy Spirit, will reprove the world of sin. But that is not what we are seeing today, we are seeing an embracing of sin and a silence from those who call themselves Christians when it comes to reproving sinners of sinful behavior.

God warned Ezekiel, to warn the wicked of their sinful ways, even if they would not listen and repent. God told Ezekiel that if he did not warn the wicked, then their blood would be on his hands.

Do you want the blood of sinners on your hands for not speaking out against their sinful behavior? Paul said to the unbelieving Jews that “Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean;”

And also in Acts 20:25-26 ..25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.”

Don't believe the lies of the Devil, speaking out against sinful behavior is not “hate speech”; it is an act of love in hopes that some might come to repentance and be saved from their sins by having faith in Jesus Christ.

Be good and be blessed.

Thank you for your post. Well put.

And here is what gentle Jesus advises:

15 “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.” (Matthew 18:15-17)

Amen

"Love the sinner hate the sin," is all well and good. We can understand why warning against sin isn't hate because of that from our perspective as Born again Christians.

However there are those amongst the lost who stake their personal Identify in their sin. I can understand why they would see hate for their sin as an condemnation against them personally. It is truly a sorry state of affairs, as humans need some sort of affirmation for their psychological wellbeing. We will identify with ideologies that are not beneficial to us if it provides a form of affirmation through a peer group, and no alternative is presented.

It seems like the degradation of community and the cultural falling away from God has left many empty with no peer group. God has not designed us to be alone.
