what is not even accepted by many Catholics but is nevertheless so imho is that there is no righteousness outside the Church and the reason why this is so is outside the Church there is only blasphemy against the H/S and this is unforgiveable - twinc

What I agree with Catholics is the importance of Church... Not only the Body of Christ, but the actual and physical coming together of people in one place, with leafership and a sense of order.

But no... That is not righteousness nor factors into righteousness. We are righteous because of Jesus's sacrifice.

Church is important. Its where the eagles gather, its where two or three agree in his name, its where we are odf one mind and one accord and its where we get faith... But that is not where we are made righteous.

twinc, your comments are getting as weird as eldios.

Here is an explanation of (ontological) righteousness from the Catholic apologist Jimmy Akin:

"Ontological or real righteousness is the quality which adheres to the soul when one does righteous acts. Its opposite, ontological or real unrighteousness, is the quality which adheres to the soul when one does unrighteous acts. Catholics conceive of guilt and innocence as objectively real properties which cling to our souls just like colours cling to the surface of objects. When we sin, we become guilty and our souls grow dark and dirty before God. But when we are justified, God purifies us and our souls become brilliant and clean before him. Guilt and innocence, righteousness and unrighteousness, are therefore conceived of as properties of our souls."

Here is another definition

"Righteousness is defined as without guilt or sin. We could also define it as right standing with God. So even though Abraham was under the law, and was not able to obtain this righteousness, because he believed God, God treated him like he was righteous."
Word of Faith: What is Righteousness

And a dictionary definition
right·eous
adj.
1. Morally upright; without guilt or sin: a righteous parishioner.
2. In accordance with virtue or morality: a righteous judgment.
3. Morally justifiable: righteous anger.

righteousness

According to Flame Ministries righteousness is an old English word that refers to relationships. It means to be in right standing with and particularly to the relationship between a King and his Son or to his closest companions whereby they have rights with the King giving them the ability to relate to him on equal terms. The New Testament use of the word righteous refers to the rights that the Christian has to stand in the presence of God and to address Him free from any sense of sin and guilt. Just as if sin never existed.

I think you are referring to the formulation: "Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus" or Outside the Church there is no salvation." This is true but we must understand it with some nuance. Everyone who is saved is saved because of the Church. But being in the Church doesn't mean being a card-carrying member of a parish. Many who are outside the institutional Church are actually in the Church and are saved.
