Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

In Romans 3:9 Paul has proven that both Jew and Gentile alike are under sin; there is none righteous.

3:19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

The Jew is under the law. The law has shown them to be guilty. The law has shown them to be under sin.

The Gentiles have the law written in the heart as evidenced by the conscience and having sinned without the law, will perish without the law (Romans 2:12).

3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

If there was a law given which could have given life, righteousness should have been by the law (Galatians 3:21) but none could keep the law. The purpose of the law was to reveal sin and drive us to seek the grace of God.

3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

But Now, the righteousness of God without the law is manifested. This righteousness was witnessed by the law, which is not of faith and could not make any righteous (Galatians 3:11) ; this righteousness was witnessed by the prophets (Habakkuk 2:4).

3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

The righteousness of God is by faith. The faith of Jesus Christ is that Jesus Christ is the object of our faith; it is in him that our faith is placed. The righteousness of God is unto all, both Jew and Gentile. The righteousness of God is placed upon all that believe; all who believe in Christ and believe the gospel (Romans 1:16).

3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

All have sinned and come short; all are unable to save themselves and fall short of the righteousness found in the glory of God. God extended grace through the redemption of Christ who paid for our sins. God has justified us freely; God has placed upon us his righteousness freely in Christ Jesus without works, without covenants.

3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

God has set forth Jesus as the propitiation, our mercy seat, and has appeased the righteous judgment of God on us and our sin. God in the past forgave sin, but how he could forgive and be just was not known. God could forgive sin by the propitiation of Jesus Christ and still uphold his righteousness.

3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

God is just and righteous in forgiving our sin; the propitiation of Jesus Christ satisfies the justice of God and allows him to justify those who believe in Jesus.

1 John 1:5-10
5 This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
KJV

One of Jesus' disciples asked Him how to pray... Jesus answered...

Luke 11:1-4
11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

2 And He said unto them, "When ye pray, say, Our Father Which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4
And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil."
KJV

All that is for AFTER... the believer has believed on Jesus Christ and been baptized in His name.

BINGO, and on point Doug, 3:25 "Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God". we would like to zero in on the last half of the verse. "the sins that are past", but what about the sins in the future while we walk in Christ Jesus? answer, 1 John 1:8 "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."
1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." BINGO. my, my, my, thank God for the NEW TESTAMENT COVENANT, no more taking of a lamb life, or a turtle dove life .. ect. "CONFESSION", it's good for the soul .... (smile) like milk is good for the body. God require saints to confess their sins. as said God's righteousness for the sinner is to "confess" his Son ... the Lord Jesus.
I can say one thing, the Roman catholic got confession right, but just to the wrong priest/person. all confession is unto God, sinner or Saint. Romans 14:11 "For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God." where was this written at? Isaiah 45:23 "I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear."
Doug you're on point. just equate righteousness as this
to the sinner ..... confess Christ, God never require a sinner to confess his sins in order to be save. for one cannot remeber all of our sins, some of us cannot remember what we were was doing last year, or even last month, or even last week. and if we was sinning as a sinner, we would be doom if we had to confess every sin. but... but ... the righteousness of God took care all of that for us when we was dead in sins and tresspass, he died for us. so a sinner only needs to confess JESUS in order to be save.

if one is a Saint, saved, he or she only needs to confess his or her sins, so pray every day and ask for forgiveness, (1 John 1:9), BINGO. oh what a GREAT COVENANT we have in Christ Jesus. and if you're not the praying type, (everyday), do this, 1 Peter 4:8 "And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins." you cannot loose with God.
so doug you're on point. God's righteousness have us covered, Sinner or Saint. just "Confess". Amen. Good topic.

3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

The righteousness of God is really manifested from the OT. The verse says...WITNESSED by the law and prophets. That means that the prophets had the righteousness of God UPON them. The anointing of God IOW.

And that is what they who enter into Christ also have upon them. And this is to minister the truth with authority in the world. So then all who are IN Christ with that authority are ministers of the things of Jesus Christ.

But this has nothing to do with an eternal salvation status or a personal righteousness. One can minister to all the nations and yet still be cut off afterwards. Each will be judged for one's own character and deeds....and what God is looking for is not Christ ON us....or Christ in us...no....He is looking for Christ being formed in us. To take on the likeness of Christ in our deeds and ways.
