Romans 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

4:8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

This imputed righteousness spoken of by David is found in Psalm 32:2. Imputation is righteousness counted or reckoned unto us through faith.

Abraham believed God in Genesis 15:6 and it was counted unto him for righteousness (Romans 4:3).

Genesis 17:10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.

17:11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.

Circumcision was a token, a visible representation of faith.

Romans 4:11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

Abraham is the father of all the uncircumcised that believe God.

4:12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

Abraham is also the father of the circumcised.

John 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

The Jews claimed Abraham as their father solely on the basis of being children of descent and missed that they could only claim Abraham as their father by faith.

Romans 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Abraham was promised by covenant to be a father of many nations in Genesis 17:4 and heir of the world (Romans 4:13) along with his seed (Genesis 17:7). God promised Abraham and his seed the land (Genesis 17:8). This promise was not through the law, but the promise was through the righteousness of faith (Romans 4:13). It is by grace through faith that the promise is made sure to all the seed of Abraham (Romans 4:16). Abraham believed God when told he would be made a father of many nations (Romans 4:17) and believed that his seed would be in number as the stars in heaven (Genesis 15:5 Romans 4:18).

Abraham was a father of many nations. From Abraham would come nations and kings (Genesis 17:6).

Abraham would become a mighty nation and all the nations would be blessed in him (Genesis 18:18). His seed would become as the stars in heaven and in his seed all the nations would be blessed (Genesis 26:4). In the Davidic kingdom on earth Israel will one day be a blessing to the Gentiles (Jeremiah 23:5. The Lord Jesus Christ will sit on the throne of David and the law will go out of Zion and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:2-3). Israel will teach the Gentile nations of God and the Gentiles will come to God through Israel (Isaiah 60:3).

From Abraham would come the seed, the Lord Jesus Christ to redeem both Jew and Gentile by his blood (Genesis 3:15 Galatians 3:16). In Christ all the nations are blessed. Abraham is father to us all who walk after the faith of Abraham (Galatians 3:7).

Israel was given the promise to inherit the earth (Psalm 37:22) not the church, the body of Christ. We are blessed and made heirs through the promise given to Abraham (Galatians 3:29) but we are made joint heirs with Christ in heavenly places (Romans 8:17 Ephesians 3:6 Ephesians 1:3).

4:19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:

4:20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

4:21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

Abraham was fully persuaded that God could give him a child and multiply his seed. Faith is believing God and being fully persuaded that what God says is true; God is able and will perform his Word.

4:22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

Faith is counted for righteousness.

4:23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

4:24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

The righteousness of God will be imputed to us as well if we believe God and believe that Jesus our Lord was delivered for our offences, he died for our sins and rose for our justification. Jesus who knew no sin was made to be our sin so we could be given his righteousness.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Question, which do you believe, if any:

1. Grace is the blood of Jesus covering our sins and all God sees is His Son's blood, and not the sins we commit underneath? We are free from the law and its punishment.

2. Grace is the power of God Jesus favors us with to be free from sin.

3. Other - elaborate.

Here is the error. It is impossible that God's righteousness be imputed to us. His righteousness comes only from God and only He owns that righteousness. Only God is as righteous as God. But we take on His righteousness by entering into Christ. His righteousness comes upon us to give us His authority. With His righteousness upon us we are made ambassadors of His kingdom and the mysteries of His kingdom.

So yes...when we believe God that is imputed by God for righteousness...our righteousness...not His. That is the righteousness of faith...OUR faith. And when we enter into Christ by faith we are UNDER His authority and IN His righteousness. As such we become His ministers. Then we operate by HIS faith...our own being swallowed up in His life.

I feel that many are confused about this.

If we look at righteousness as a kind of strength we see that we may have a certain amount of strength...like enough to pick up a rock...but nobody can move a mountain in their own power. Jesus said that the true faith...the faith OF Jesus can do miracles like moving mountains. So then the faith OF Jesus makes us to do miracles because we have HIS grace...His righteousness...His authority.

But by their very definition these never become ours. They are always His. God's righteousness is His. When we are sent out by God to be a witness of His life and will...then we are given His righteousness as a gift UPON US. He does not send us out empty handed. This is what took place at Pentecost. The power of God came down UPON the disciples as grace power. No one would have claimed that power as now his/her own.

When we put on Christ we take on His righteousness UPON us...so that we are found IN Him under the shadow of His wings. So then we can walk IN Him.

When we put our own faith in God we can be deemed righteous by God by OUR faith in Him. This is the righteousness of faith. But the faith that is FROM God is a gift. He allows us to put on the New Man...which is already righteous and holy IN Him.

Allowing us? Actually, He tells us to do it, and even says we already have. You may want to re-look a the relevant Scriptures.

This really does seem to be an ongoing misunderstanding, as if the new birth wasn't actually a new birth from God.

Seriously! There's no need to tell people that they have to wait for something more, something they don't have, to be a new creation. That happens when we believe.

And if people will simply believe the truth of that, then they can live that new creation.

But all the denial of that new creation simply tries to prevent others from entering from one will not go. And what does that say?

I see what you are saying here......we can not be made to have the same righteousness as God's righteousness....but God reckons righteousness to us.....not the same righteousness of God however....is this close?

But 2 Corinthians 5:21 says we have the righteousness of God....I think this means we have the righteousness of God imputed to us by Christ in order to stand before him....we don't have our righteousness, but Christ's.

I don't usually disagree with anything you write, but I certainly do here. What you are describing is not our nature being born again where we are partakers of the divine nature. That is ours! And John says, "He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. That is not the righeousness of the carnal nature that is filthy rags. No! We are a new creature, a child of the living God. We are given the power of God, and as we abide in Him we have His authority to command sickness and disease and demons to leave.

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Yes His divine power...miraculous power that is upon us when we abide in Him. It is very possible to try being obedient to Christ in our own strength too. Think about it. Nobody remains in the Spirit from new birth till death. That would mean that person is already mature in Christ...having learned all the spiritual lessons in advance. But there are many testimonies of people who went in and out of the Spirit until they learned how to remain. That is the process of renewing the mind into maturity. Remember that even John said he was in the Spirit on the Lord's day. If he was always in the Spirit...or had always been in the Spirit...why would he specify that he was on a certain day? Think about it.

Being in the Spirit is being in a heavenly realm...walking in 2 places at once with this life in the foreground...but with our focus into the eternal realm in Zion. Seeing into the kingdom of God so as to be filled with His love and life. Seeing as He sees the world. Now I realize that not many have experienced this.

A person can't see the kingdom of God unless that one is born of the Spirit. But we can continue either to live in our own strength or His. That is our choice. Do we hate our carnal lives? Or are we trying to be saved while yet loving this world?

So are you against the possibility or choice of a walk in the carnal power of men or the spiritual power of Christ? This is what discipleship is all about. First to learn the difference...then to learn to put on Christ...as God permits.

But we also learn to be more Christlike over time...learning to let go and have faith...even when we are not walking in the power of the Spirit. That's the whole point of God's training.

On judgment day...God's grace will return to Him and we will be judged by what we have become through grace. Have we become spoiled and spiritually proud? Or have we learned humility and taken on the mind of Christ?

So each of us will be judged by OUR OWN works...of what kind they are.

Humility is never quenching the Spirit. Always listening for His still small voice directing us. And yes, it takes maturity which comes from suffering through which you learn obedience.

Yes. Being led by the Spirit is not the same at all as being IN the Spirit. I think most modern faithful Christians are led by the Spirit...following that inner voice in the heart. But the kind of walk where someone carries the authority of God...in HIS righteousness...is very rare in our time.

It takes faith from us to listen to His voice. It takes faithfulness on our part to listen for the Spirit's guidance.

But people today make a lot of foolish claims...like they have the righteousness of God on them IN their sins. As if God is a minister of sin.

It is rather (grace) the power of God to ALL who believe...first the Jew but also the Gentile. Anything else is a doctrine from men.

Yes. :) His righteousness can be placed upon us as a gift. It is a gift of God in order to do His will. But that righteousness and authority are not ours to do with as we please. We are MORE responsible when we carry His authority.

I find that people confuse the righteousness of faith with the righteousness of Christ and the righteousness of God.

The righteousness of faith is something WE DO by believing God...like the thief on the cross. But the righteousness of God comes upon us by supernatural visitation and gifting.

His righteousness is not placed on us, but placed IN us. It is the nature of the new birth. We do not do what pleased the carnal nature. We do what is in our new nature.

I had another thought .....we have the righteousness of God placed on our account if you will....we have no righteousness at all or outside of his righteousness.....it is only what comes from God.

No...that's not correct. His righteousness is ON us when we enter INTO Christ. Christ in us is a hope...not a done deal.

You are a devil and so is she.

.like they have the righteousness of God on them IN their sins. As if God is a minister of sin.

That is not a Christian doctrine, but a doctrine of demons. And you are right, that false doctrine has permeated the church.

“And to the angel of the church in Sardis write,

‘These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. (2 leaders of the Reformation, guess who ML and JC) 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. 3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. 4 You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. (Reformers of the Reformation, like Jacob Arminius and John Wesley) 5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

6 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’
