As we use our God-given brains to discover the amazing details of His creation, sometimes incredible new tools emerge.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a diagnostic tool that relies on positrons (positively charged electrons) for high-resolution of the bodies organs in order to detect problems.

The positron (the electron’s antiparticle) was predicted by the physicist P.A.M. Dirac in 1928 and was discovered in cosmic rays in 1932. When a positron encounters an electron, they mutually annihilate, resulting in the emission of two high-energy photons (gamma rays: light).

To detect possible problems in my cardiovascular system, a nurse injected me with a radioactive substance that was a positron emitter. I was then wheeled into a donut-shaped detector, which recorded the images from the photons: in other words, it was a camera that captured images of the light was shining inside and out through my body.

This is just one science application based on the wonders of God’s design for our world.

Blessings.
